YOU ARE AN ASSET TO ISLAM, NOT A LIABILITY.
— SHEHU, Abdus-Salam Aladodo.
Unarguably, Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. Despite all the false propaganda which the enemies of Islam are feeding the whole world with, as well as the way they (the enemies of Islam) always have their way of getting Islam in the middle of global issues, ranging from terrorism, women liberation, to mention but few. Several forms of misconceptions, misquotations and misinterpretations are being fired towards Islam, which are nothing but falsehood. Against all odds, it is generally known and acknowledged that Muslims remain the most peaceful people ever. The reason for this is not far-fetched, for Islam is a religion of peace and submission. As such, Muslims are peaceful in submission to the Divine will of Allah which does not only entail their spiritual affairs, but also their mundane affairs, including interpersonal relations with those who are not Muslims.
Ever since ages, Islam has been blessed with lots of intellectual people who conquered and controlled the world with their God-given knowledge. They illuminated the darkened world with their prowesses. Scientists, Philosophers, Psychologists, Doctors, Scholars, Historians, Judges, Geographers, Archeologists, mention them, Islam was/is blessed with them all. The likes of Ibn Sins (Avicenna), Ibn Rushd (Averroes), Ar-Razi, Ibn Khaldun, Abu Hamid Al-Ghazali, Al-Farabi, Omar Khayyam, Al Kindi, Muhammad ibn Musa Al-Khawarizmi, Ibn Al-haytham, Ibn Arabi, Jaabir bn Hayyan, Jallaludin Rumi, Ibn Tufail, Ibn Taymiyyah, Shaykh Muhammad Nasiruddin Albany, Shaykh Muhammad Salih Al-Uthaymeen, among others. These great men took it upon themselves to disseminate the Islamic message of peace and utmost salvation with their knowledge and God-given talents, they became an icon, a great assets to Islam. Without mentioning them, the history of Islam spreading its tentacles over the whole world wouldn’t be complete. They conveyed the unadulterated message of Islam, and through them, thousands and thousands of people reverted to Islam.
After them came other propagators and liberators who pioneered the cause of the Islamic knowledge till this very time of ours. Undoubtedly, the immense intellectual blessings still flow even in the Muslims of today. There thousands of Muslims out there who are blessed with imaginable and unimaginable prowesses alike. Youths who devour pages each day like meals and commit voluminous books to memory. Youths whose writing skills soar higher than the eagle and spread wide like the sea, as far as the eyes can see. Youths whose oratory prowess are forces to reckon with. Youths whose brains are like magnets in terms of data calculation, development of softwares, and whatever talent that is present out there in the world. The Muslim youths harbour them all.
However, little or no contributions are being made by Muslim youths towards the growth and development of Islam, or should we say Muslim youths are too relaxed in their comfort zone that they see reasons not to defend Islam with their talents as Islam will always find its way out of every situation, for it is a Divine religion, and the Divine protection is guaranteed. Whereas, the Qur’an categorically states that:
وَالَّذِينَ جَاهَدُوا فِينَا لَنَهْدِيَنَّهُمْ سُبُلَنَا ۚ وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمَعَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ
And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.
-Sura Al-Ankabut, Ayah 69
It is safe to say that whatever you are today is because of Allah. Whatever talent you possess is because Allah has chosen to give it to you, and you have your part to play. If as a Muslim who is blessed with a skill or the other, and you are not defending Islam with it, then you haven’t found your purpose. Your purpose is to worship Allah, and you can worship Him through your given talent. Defend Islam with your oratory prowess, with your write-ups, with your arts, whatever it is God has given you. Muslims are being labelled terrorists, Muslim women are being violated with regards to their chastity, other vices are being carried out against Muslims openly and secretly. Take your time to find one single thing you can lend your voice or whatever talent is it you have to. Do not fold your arms and watch as fellow Muslims are being violated. Remember the Prophetic narration:
Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri said: ‘I heard the Messenger of Allah [SAW] say: Whoever among you sees an evil and changes it with his hand, then he has done his duty. Whoever is unable to do that, but changes it with his tongue, then he has done his duty. Whoever is unable to do that, but changes it with his heart, then he has done his duty, and that is the weakest of Faith.'” (authenticated).
If those who are upon falsehood are not resting night and day, fortifying and strategizing just to see to it that Muslims are stripped of their honour, why then should you as a Muslim whom Allah has given a certain talent keep mute and allow them to set you on fire bit by bit. You have a talent, use it for Islam. Always put Islam first in everything you do. You’ll be rewarded in multifolds, for you’re an asset to Islam, and not a liability.
