Salaam alaykum, brethren in faith..

As awkward as this may sound, it’s the bitter truth. I’tikaaf is basically about three things: Solaat, recitation of the Qur’an, and Adhkaar. It is not permissible for a Mu’takif (a person observing i’tikaaf) to teach the Qur’an to others let alone teach them hadith and fiqh. It’s a period of rigorous and fervent prayers and supplications. As beneficial and meritorious as teaching the Qur’an to others is, it’s not permitted while on I’tikaaf (to avoid unnecessary distraction) except it becomes highly necessary to do so as a matter of great necessity.

What more?

Today, we see people observing i’tikaaf organizing lectures to be delivered by either one of them or someone from outside. This is not known to us in the Sunnah, and should not be added to this important act of worship.

Let’s stick only to the Sunnah of the Prophet (upon him be peace). There is no goodness except in following the Sunnah.

Allah knows best
