When a man commits suicide, people say, “Death is never the solution” and I ask, “not a solution to what?
If there is no life after death, suicide is a solution to this world’s heartache and its thousand natural shocks. A freedom from the pangs of despised love, the contumely of the proud, the evil of oppression, the whips and scorns of time, and the injustice of the law. Suicide lays one to rest, free from life’s troubles and weariness.
However, if there then be life after death, the one aspiring to commit suicide has to think:
– If death puts one to sleep, in that sleep, are there dreams, if dreams, what dreams are there?
– Shall we on account of ills, flee from the ills we know of to those we know not of?
– Passing by the graveyard can be quiet, underneath, is the grave really silently silent or silently noisy?
– Death is an undiscovered country from whose bourn no traveler returns, that’s quite a ride, are you ready?
Natural death or suicide does bring an end to problems for the individual, albeit, it could bring much more problems that are not within the scope of the our immediate reality.
The position of Islam that your life is not to take cannot be more logical. Islam argues that your life is not yours, so, it is not yours to take. That also explains why you cannot murder someone, you didn’t give them life, you shouldn’t take it except in established legal matters.
Just as you will be made to account for taking what’s not yours in this world, so will you account for taking a life you didn’t give, whether it’s your own life or another’s.
For more insight, in Qur’an 67:2, the Qur’an argues that life is in and of itself a test and these tests come in different dimensions. Alla also says in:
Al-Baqarah 2:28
كَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَكُنتُمْ أَمْوَٰتًا فَأَحْيَٰكُمْۖ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيكُمْ ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
English – Sahih International
How can you disbelieve in Allāh when you were lifeless and He brought you to life; then He will cause you to die, then He will bring you [back] to life, and then to Him you will be returned.?
Many people are on the verge of suicide but conscience makes them ‘cowards’ and thus, the native hue of resolution is sicklied over with the pale cast of thought and it really should.
Suicide is a solution life matters but presents am infinity of troubles.
