BIRTHDAY VIRUS.

One of the viruses we contacted from childhood was giving unnecessary importance to birthday anniversaries by marking it in whatever way. This is no doubt one of the lizard holes that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم hinted that we would follow and imitate from the People of the Book (Christians and Jews). We also struggled and Allāh has saved some of us from it. But a lot of people still follow it cubit by cubit as mentioned in the relevant hadith.
We were in the last rakah of subh this morning when we started hearing trumpet and sound of drums close to the Masjid. After the solah, we found out that it was a neighbor that some people came to surprise with that because today is his or her birthday. They said that is the new trend. I experienced it for the first time. SubhanaLlaah!
If this mentality is now being passed to Muslim children by you making them to see nothing wrong in marking or celebrating their birthdays, in whatever form, you are only promoting and perpetuating this evil. Some people even claim to be islamizing it by organizing “Birthday Prayer”. This is the same way some people try to islamize music with “Islamic Music” coinage. There is also “Islamic Fashion Parade”. Only Allāh knows what will follow in the future. It is not possible to Islamize illegality. Islām is Sunnah, Sunnah is Islām. Anything that contravenes the Sunnah is unlawful for the believers.
May Allāh guide us the ability to know the truth and grant us the patience to follow it.
