FG assigns 100bn gotten from sukuk to critical road construction.

0

The N100bn non-interest  loan gotten from Sukuk will be spent on critical road construction across the country as declared by Director General, Debt Management Office, Mrs Patience Oniha.

“This is one of several efforts to raise funds for specific projects and this is backed by the full faith of the Federal Government. This is a rental product to cater for segments of our society that require such services”

Sukuk represents undivided shares in ownership of tangible assets, relating to particular projects or special investment activities, while bonds are securities in the form of a debt that will be paid back before a certain date in addition to interest.

Sukuk is structured in a way that generates returns to investors, without interest whereas bond is a debt investment in which an investor loans money to an entity, which borrows the funds for a defined period of time at a fixed interest rate.

Oniha alongside other officials of the Ministry of Power, Work and Housing assured potential investors that the Federal Government is fully in support of the Sukuk scheme.

Assistant Director, Planning and Development, Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing Mr Danlele Yila mentioned that the N100bn would be used to construct about 25 road projects and the dualization of some roads spread across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

“This is a new product, which means new opportunities, new investment. I am confident that it will do well, same with other financial instruments such as the FGN Bond, savings bond and the others that the DMO has always put on offer”

According to the Debt Management Office, the benefits of investing in the Scheme comprises safety, regular and tax-free income, liquidity as it will be listed and traded on the Nigerian Stock Exchange and the FMDQ OTC Securities Exchange Plc.

THE LAST HOUR

0

The clock ticks faster than ever.,

Man, in search of a lasting revival continue to struggle for survival,

The shadow of death keep chasing man till He would run no more,

The hour then arrive when all hopes become dissipated,

Man would continue to Chase the wind till He get hold of nothing,

My certificate, my profession, my policy, my women, my this my that,

All will watch with naked eyes while Man makes a return to his Lord,

The day is fast approaching like never before,

The one who is destined to die tonight wouldn’t know until the arrival of Death,

And as little as this Gregorian year remains
A good number of people wouldn’t witness the birth of another year,

Many are already planning for 2018 when they have little or knowledge If they would witness the end of 2017,

Subuhan’Allah!!!

Am weary of the day I breath no more,

My first night down below, deep inside the grave,

Am weary of the day my family morns my departure,

I fear for the day of judgement and what it holds,

I mean the day when Man would deny his children and every mother would mind her business,

You know what; if only we live as though tomorrow is impossible,

Today would have been better by far!

Yah Allah, we ask that you grant us better understanding of your Deen.

Do not take our soul until you are pleased with us.

May Allah make us steadfast till our last breath.

Allaahu l Musta’aan!

Fleeing Rohingya Muslims Need $200m In the Next 6 Months- UN

0

The United Nations estimates that the Muslims of Rohingya who are taking refuge in Bangladesh will need up to $200m in the next 6 months.

Bangladeshi authorities and humanitarian organisations are struggling to help the 422,000 Rohingya Muslims who have arrived since August 25 when attacks by a Rohingya militant group brought about a counterinsurgency from Myanmar authorities, a move labelled by the United Nations as “ethnic cleansing.”

Bangladesh had been a home for Rohingya muslims who are a minority in a largely Buddhist Myanmar. The United Nations has appealed for $78m on September 9, 2017 but there has been an influx of more refugees, thereby raising the amount needed to keep them in shape.

“Right now, we’re looking at $200 million,” UN Resident Coordinator told Reuters in an interview in his office in Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh on Friday.

“It has not been confirmed, but it is a ballpark figure based on the estimates on the information we have,” he said, adding that would be for six months.

“We base these appeals on immediate needs, and right now we know they’re going to be here for six months.”

Meanwhile, the Myanmar authorities have denied undergoing an ethnic cleansing with claims of just proving enough opposition for the insurgents of the Arakhan Rohingya Salvation Army who claimed responsibility for attacks on about 30 Police Posts and army camp on August 25.

The insurgents are also said to be behind similar smaller attacks in October last year that led to that led to an unsavoury Army response, which caused the exodus of over 87,000 Rohingya to Bangladesh.

Watkins further informed that the exodus witnessed from Rohingya since August 25 is much more than that witnessed at the turn of the ethnic cleansing which happened in Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

“It’s different from that here because the numbers are so much bigger … massive numbers in such a short period of time,” he claimed.

The monsoon rains have made the roads very difficult to ply making aids get to Rohingya quite late but informed they are working with Bangladeshi authorities to build new roads. He further said there were no plans for an exact number of people as the situation wasn’t stable yet and there hasn’t been a set period of time for the provision of the aids and relief programmes.

We don’t want to plan a 10-year operation, obviously, because we want to maintain hope that there will be a way for negotiating a return of the population,” he said.

“We can’t plan too far in the future because it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. On the one hand, politically, it sends a strong signal, which we don’t want to send, which is that people are going to be here for a long time.

“And our donors are not prepared to respond to anything beyond a one-year time frame given the massive amounts of money we are asking for.”

Rohingya are regarded as illegal immigrants and they have no state in Myanmar.

Myanmar leader, Sung San Sun Kyi said this week Myanmar was ready to start a process with Bangladesh under which anyone verified as a refugee will be accepted back with no qualms, “without any problem” as he tagged it.

Many Rohingya are not in favour of going back home owing to their lack of papers for residency.

And in any case, the list of candidates for “son of God” begins with Adam, as per
Luke 3:38: “Adam, which was the son of God.”
Those who rebut by quoting Matthew 3:17 (“And suddenly a voice came from
heaven, saying, ‘This is My beloved son, in whom I am well pleased’”) have overlooked
the point that the Bible describes many people, Israel and Adam included, as “sons of
God.” Both 2 Samuel 7:1314 and 1 Chronicles 22:10 read, “He (Solomon) shall build a
house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his
Father, and he shall be My son.”
Entire nations are referred to as sons, or children of God. Examples include:

1.  Genesis 6:2, “That the sons of God saw the daughters of men…”
2.  Genesis 6:4, “There were giants on the earth in those days, and also
afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men …”
3.  Deuteronomy 14:1, “Ye are the children of the Lord your God.”
4.  Job 1:6, “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present
themselves before the LORD …”
5.  Job 2:1, “Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present
themselves before the LORD …”
6.  Job 38:7, “When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of
God shouted for joy?”
7.  Philippians 2:15, “that you may become blameless and harmless,
children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse
generation …”
8.  1 John 3:12, “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed
on us, that we should be called children of God! … Beloved, now we are
children of God …”
In Matthew 5:9 Jesus says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called
sons of God.” Later in Matthew 5:45, Jesus prescribed to his followers the attainment of
noble attributes, “that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.” Not exclusively his
Father, but their Father. Furthermore, John 1:12 reads, “But as many as received Him, to
them He gave the right to become children of God …” If the Bible is to be respected, any
person of piety could aspire to the office of “child of God.

On Sorcery (As-Sihr)

Allah the Most Exalted said: “And indeed they knew that the buyers of it (magic) would have no share in the Hereafter.”
(2:102)

Allah the Almighty said:
“They believe in Al-Jibt and At-Taghut (all false deities).” (4:51)

Umar ((May Allah be pleased with him)) is reported to have said that Al-Jibt is magic
(sorcery) while At-Taghut is Ash-Shaitan.
Jabir ((May Allah be pleased with him)) is reported to have said that At-Taghut are
soothsayers upon whom the devil alights and every tribe has one.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) is reported to have heard the Prophet (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) saying: “Save yourself from the seven destroyers.” The Companions (May Allah be pleased with him) asked: “O Messenger of Allah, what are those?” He (May the peace and blessing of Allah be
upon him) said, “To associate anything with Allah, sorcery (magic), without any just cause killing a life Allah has forbidden, taking interest (usury), usurping the wealth of orphans, turning back from the battlefield, and making a false charge (accusation) against the chaste but unmindful women (i.e. they never even think of anything touching chastity).”
(Bukhari and Muslim)

Jundub (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated the following Marfu’ Hadith, which At-Tirmidhi reported: “The punishment for the sorcerers/magicians is that he be stuck with the sword (executed).”

In Sahih Al-Bukhari, Bajalah bin `Abadah (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated:
“‘Umar bin Al-Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him) wrote: Execute every sorcerer or sorceress”. So Bajalah continued: “We executed three sorcerers.”
Hafsah (May Allah be pleased with him) is reported to have ordered an execution of a slave woman who practiced magic/sorcery on her and she was executed. Such an event has also been
reported through Jundub (May Allah be pleased with him).

According to Imam Ahmad (May Allah be pleased with him) execution of sorcerers
(magicians) is testified by three Companions of the Prophet (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) (Umar, Hafsah, Jundub).

Important issues of the Chapter

1) Explanation of the verse in Al-Baqarah (2:102).

2) Explanation of the verse in An-Nisa (4:51).

3) Meaning of Al-Jibt and At-Taghut and the difference between the two.

4) At- Taghut could be among jinns or humans.

5) Details of seven grave destroyers which are strictly forbidden.

6) Sorcerers or magicians are disbelievers (Kafir).

7) That the sorcerers/magicians should be executed and no repentance is accepted.

8) Sorcerers were found among the Muslims during the period of Umar (May Allah be pleased with him). So how about thereafter?

Quran and the pulsars: the pulsating stars

THE QURAN AND THE PULSARS:PULSATING STARS

[I swear] by Heaven and the Tariq! And what will convey to you what the Tariq is? The Star Piercing [the darkness]! (Qur’an, 86:1-3)

The word “Tariq,” name of the Sura 86, comes from the root “tarq,” whose basic meaning is that of striking hard enough to produce a sound, or hitting. Bearing in mind the word’s possible meaning as “beating,” “striking hard,” our attention may be being drawn in this sura to an important scientific fact. Before analysing this information, let us look at the other words employed in the verse to describe these stars.

The term “al-taariqi” in the above verse means a star that pierces the night, that pierces the darkness, born at night, piercing and moving on, beating, striking, or sharp star. Furthermore, the term “wa” draws attention to the things being sworn on-the heaven and the Tariq.
Through research carried out by Jocelyn Bell Burnell, at Cambridge University in 1967, a regular radio signal was identified. Until that time, however, it was not known that that there was a heavenly body that could be the source of regular pulse or beating rather like that of the heart.

In 1967, however, astronomers stated that, as matter grows denser in the core as it revolves around its own axis, the star’s magnetic field also grows stronger, and thus gives rise to a magnetic field at its poles 1 trillion times stronger than that of Earth. They realised that a body revolving so fast and with such a powerful magnetic field emits rays consisting of very powerful radio waves in a conic form at every revolution. Shortly afterwards, it was also realised that the source of these signals is the rapid revolution of neutron stars. These newly discovered neutron stars are known as “pulsars.” These stars, which turn into pulsars through supernova explosions, are of the greatest mass, and are the brightest and fastest moving bodies in the universe.

Some pulsars revolve 600 times a second.51
The word “pulsar” comes from the verb to pulse. According to the American Heritage Dictionary, the word means to pulsate, to beat. Encarta Dictionary defines it as to beat rhythmically, to move or throb with a strong regular rhythm. Again, according to the Encarta Dictionary, the word “pulsate,” which comes from the same root, means to expand and contract with a strong regular beat.

Following that discovery, it was realised that the phenomenon described in the Qur’an as “tariq,” beating, bore a great similarity to the neutron stars known as pulsars.
Neutron stars form as the nuclei of super giant stars collapse. The highly compressed and dense matter, in the form of a rapidly revolving sphere, entraps and squeezes most of the star’s weight and magnetic field. The powerful magnetic field created by these rapidly revolving neutron stars has been shown to cause the emission of powerful radio waves observable on Earth.

In the third verse of Surat at-Tariq the term “al-najmu al-thaaqibu,” meaning piercing, moving on, or opening holes, indicates that Tariq is a bright star that pierces a hole in the darkness and moves on. The concept of the term “adraaka” in the expression “And what will convey to you what the Tariq is?” refers to comprehension.

Pulsars, formed through the compression of stars several times the size of the Sun, are among those celestial bodies that are hard to comprehend. The question in the verse emphasizes how hard it is to comprehend this beating star. (Allah knows best.)

As discussed, the stars described as Tariq in the Qur’an bear a close similarity to the pulsars described in the 20th century, and it reveal to us another scientific miracle of the Qur’an.

Allaah knows best.

THE QURAN ON THE EXPANDING UNIVERSE

0

THE QUR’AN ON THE EXPANDING UNIVERSE

In the Qur’an, which was revealed fourteen centuries ago at a time when the science of astronomy was still primitive, the expansion of the universe was described in the following terms:

وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بَنَيْنَٰهَا بِأَيْي۟دٍۢ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ

And it is We Who have constructed the heaven with might, and verily, it is We Who are steadily expanding it.
Qur’an, 51:47

The word “heaven,” as stated in the verse above, is used in various places in the Qur’an. It is referring to space and the wider universe. Here again, the word is used with this meaning, stating that the universe “expands.” The Arabic word “moosi’oona” in the term “inna lamoosi’oona,” translated into English as “it is We Who are steadily expanding it,” comes from the verb “awsa’a,” meaning “to expand.” The prefix “la” emphasises the following name or title and adds a sense of “to a great extent.” This expression therefore means “We expand the sky or the universe to a great extent.” This is the very conclusion that science has reached today.

Until the dawn of the 20th century, the only view prevailing in the world of science was that “the universe has a constant nature and it has existed since infinite time.” However, modern research, observations, and calculations carried out by means of modern technology have revealed that the universe in fact had a beginning and that it constantly “expands.”
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Russian physicist Alexander Friedmann and the Belgian cosmologist Georges Lemaître theoretically calculated that the universe is in constant motion and that it is expanding.

This notion was confirmed by the use of observational data in 1929. While observing the sky with a telescope, Edwin Hubble, the American astronomer, discovered that the stars and galaxies were constantly moving away from each other. This discovery is regarded as one of the greatest in the history of astronomy.

During these observations, Hubble established that the stars emit a light that turns redder according to their distance. That is because according to the known laws of physics, light heading towards a point of observation turns violet, and light moving away from that point assumes a more reddish hue. During his observations, Hubble noted a tendency towards the colour red in the light emitted by stars. In short, the stars were moving further and further away, all the time.

The stars and galaxies were not only moving away from us, but also from each other. A universe where everything constantly moves away from everything else implied a constantly expanding universe. The observations carried out in the following years verified that the universe is constantly expanding.
In order to gain a clearer understanding of this, let us imagine the universe to be the surface of a balloon being inflated. In the same way that the more the balloon is inflated, the further away the points on its surface move from one another, celestial bodies also move away from one another as the universe expands. This was theoretically discovered by Albert Einstein, regarded as one of the greatest scientists of the 20th century. However, in order to avoid violating the “static universe model” that was generally accepted at that time, Einstein laid that discovery aside. He would later describe this as the greatest blunder of his life.

This fact was explained in the Qur’an in a time when telescopes and similar technological advancements were not even close to being invented. This is because the Qur’an is the word of Allah: the Creator and Ruler of the entire universe.

Allaah and creation

0

ALLAAH AND CREATION

Since the total submission of one’s will to God represents the essence of worship, the basic message of God’s divine religion, Islam, is the worship of God alone. It also requires the avoidance of worship directed to any person, place or thing other than God. Since everything other than God, the Creator of all things, is God’s creation, it may be said that Islam, in essence, calls man away from worship of creation and invites him to worship only his Creator. He is the only one deserving of man’s worship, because it is only by His will that prayers are answered.

Accordingly, if a man prays to a stone and his prayers are answered, it is not the stone that answered his prayers but God, Who allows the circumstances prayed for to take place. One might say, “That is obvious”; however, to stone-worshipers, it might not be so. Similarly, prayers to Jesus (pbuh), Buddha, Krishna, St. Christopher, St. Jude, are not answered by them, but are answered by God. Jesus (pbuh) did not tell his followers to worship him but to worship God, as the Qur’an states:

And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, “O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, ‘Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah ?'” He will say, “Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen.

Quran 5:116

Nor did Jesus (pbuh) worship himself when he worshiped, but rather he worshiped God. And Jesus (pbuh) was reported in the Gospels to have said:

“It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.'” (Luke 4:8)

The basic principle is contained in the opening chapter of the Qur’an, known as Surah al-Fatihah, verse 5:

إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ

It is You we worship and You we ask for help.

Quran 1:5

Elsewhere in the final book of revelation, the Qur’an, God also said:

وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ٱدْعُونِىٓ أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِى سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ

And your Lord says, “Call upon Me; I will respond to you.” Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.

Quran 40:60

And thus, Jesus Christ (pbuh) said: ask and you shall be given. Which means ask God and he will answer your prayers

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

Matthew:7:7

It is worth emphasizing that the basic message of Islam (namely, the worship of God alone) also proclaims that God and His creation are distinctly different entities. God is neither equal to His creation nor a part of it, nor is His creation equal to Him or a part of Him.

This might seem obvious, but man’s worship of creation, instead of the Creator, is to a large degree based on ignorance, or neglect, of this concept. It is the belief that the essence of God is everywhere in His creation or that His divine being is or was present in some parts of His creation, which has provided justification for the worship of God’s creation and naming it the worship of God. However, the message of Islam, as brought by the prophets of God, is to worship only God and to avoid the worship of His creation either directly or indirectly.

In the Qur’an, God clearly states:

And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], “Worship Allah and avoid Taghut.” And among them were those whom Allah guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed through the earth and observe how was the end of the deniers.

Quran 16:36

When idol worshipers are questioned as to why they bow down to idols created by men, the invariable reply is that they are not actually worshiping the stone image, but God Who is present within it. They claim that the stone idol is only a focal point for God’s essence and is not in itself God! One who has accepted the concept of God being present in any way within His creation will be obliged to accept this argument for idolatry. Whereas, one who understands the basic message of Islam and its implications would never agree to idolatry no matter how it is rationalized.

Those who have claimed divinity for themselves down through the ages have often based their claims on the mistaken belief that God is present in man. Taking one step further, they claim that God is more present in them than the rest of us, and that other humans should therefore submit to them and worship them as God in person or as God concentrated within their persons. Similarly, those who have asserted the godhood of others after their deaths have found fertile ground among those who accept the false belief of God’s presence in man.

It should be abundantly clear by now that one who has grasped the basic message of Islam and its implications could never agree to worship another human being under any circumstance. God’s religion, in essence, is a clear call to the worship of the Creator and the rejection of creation-worship in any form. This is the meaning of the motto of Islam:

Laa ilaaha illaa Allah” (there is no god but Allaah)

The sincere declaration of this phrase and the acceptance of prophethood automatically brings one within the fold of Islam, and sincere belief in it guarrantees one Paradise. Thus, the final Prophet of Islam (pbuh) is reported to have said:

“Any one who says ‘There is no god but Allah’, and dies holding that (belief) will enter Paradise.”

Belief in this declaration of faith requires that one submit his/her will to God in the way taught by the prophets of God. It also requires the believer to give up the worship of false gods.

Allahu musta’an
