You might have met them. You probably have heard them. In the churches, in the streets, inside public buses, on radio and television. It is always in Jesus’ name. But I tell you the truth, the lie they formulate in the name of Jesus is more than the truth they tell
I still remember vividly how a preacher openly lied in the bus I entered. As religious as he ought to have behaved, he gave us a big fable. What amazed me the most was the rate at which the gullible listeners swallowed the lies.
Can any doctor test pregnancy with microscope? Of course, NO. But this preacher told us how God/Jesus dealt with one lady who was fond of sleeping around with men and had several abortions. He said, the last abortion of the lady put her into mess, doctor advised her not to abort the pregnancy after testing her with microscope. Even a primary school pupil knows the functions of a microscope.
Why should we lie to move our ministry forward? That was how another preacher told us how a man who couldn’t walk walked after a crusade. The lame man didn’t just walk but began running. Really? Yinka Ayefele, the popular Juju-gospel Singer has been on wheel chair for many years, where are these Pastors? Where are these men of God? Let the whole world praise master Jesus through him please. Would that happen? I dare any of them to do the miracle, if indeed their miracles performed in their shows are not scams, stage managed and scripted. Patients are lying flat in hospitals, no man of God to cure them. Oh, it’s because hospitals have real sick people and not actors.
One way preachers lie is by playing around the truth. On Sundays, pastors stand in pulpits and preach their sermons, giving congregations a version of truth, but not the entire truth. They enter their pulpits with an agenda, an objective. Their agendas affect how they interpret the Bible and what they say in their sermons. The Bible, then, becomes a means to an end, be it saving the lost, calling listeners to repentance, raising money, or advancing Church projects.
Because of lies these men of god tell, congregants have believed they can be rich by shouting just Amen to the pastor’s prayer without having any occupation. Taking anointing oil prayed upon by the Pastor works wonders. Just of recent, I was on my way to visit a family friend who was detained in NSCDC office. I was going with a lady who is a Christian, all of a sudden she shouted in disappointment. “Oh! I forgot the handkerchief.” She exclaimed. She actually forgot one handkerchief that could perform wonders. I smiled as I watched her run back home to pick it. We still live in a world of miracles!
These lies are told to psychologically, emotionally and spiritually arrest their listeners. Who would have thought they could lie to deceive? But the problem is, no mater how these lies are busted, lost sheep will always flock the church.
Aside alters, other lies being told include:
1. “Give your life to Christ”
This you have heard several times. But Did Christ asked for our lives?
Maybe it’s high time we asked these preachers to bring out their claims from the book they carry about. What does Christ need our lives for? Was that his purpose? If Jesus Christ is the God or even the son of God, what benefit is giving him out lives? Doesn’t he own them already?
2. “Jesus loves you and died for you”:
This and other phrases is popular. Jesus died for me?
Don’t be swayed by this lie. Jesus didn’t die for anyone. Whenever you heard them say that, ask them:
Did Jesus know he was to die when he prayed that the cup of death should pass over him?
If he knew why the hypocrisy when he was destined to die for my sins?
How come he was been looked for instead of him surrendering to them?
Jesus said he was sent ONLY to the lost sheep of isrealites, is Nigeria an extension of Israel?
3. “Go to church on Sundays”
From Genesis to Revelation, you will never find even a single verse that transfers the sanctity of the seventh-day Sabbath to Sunday. Even the biggest Sunday-keeping churches today will readily admit that Sunday is the first day of the week and it was man and not God who inspired the change. Sunday isn’t the worship day for Christians. When next they tell this lie, ask for the evidences.
4.” You are under grace, so you don’t have to follow the Law”
When you hear this one just pick race. Rebuke them. Bible opposes that statement.
“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:17-19).
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone (James 2:17).
“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that KEEP the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus” (Revelation 14:12).
Christianity today is nowhere close to the Christ’s teachings according to the Bible. As a matter of fact, Jesus Christ is gravely misrepresented today and his preachings have been reduced to “all you have to do is to believe in Christ and you’ll be saved”. You check with your Bible the next time your pastor tells you something. You will be surprised that you have been fooled.
