Nigerian Muslim activists have led different Hijab cases at different times. Nigeria, a multi-religious State has been trying to find a balance between its secular constitution and the diverse society. While Muslims continue to demand for their right to practice their religion which is enshrined in the constitution, the Christian Association of Nigeria positions itself as an antagonist.

In 2016, Osun State came into the limelight when Muslims went to court over the legality of female Muslim students wearing the Hijab to school. Justice Jide Falola of the Osun State High Court had on June 3 given a verdict that Muslim students should be allowed to wear hijab in all public schools in the state because it was part of their fundamental rights.

Reacting to the verdict, CAN threatened that, should the government implement the judgment, they will ask their children to wear Church garments to school. They (CAN) made good their threat as some students of Baptist high school, Iwo, Osun State wore Church garments to school.

It’s been six years now, and Muslims continue to wear the Hijab while the Christians cannot keep up with their hypocrisy. While some Hijab cases are still in court, new cases are been opened. The Nigerian constitution grants its citizens the freedom of religion, thus, Muslims must be allowed to wear their Hijab in every sector of the country.
