BEING A CHRISTIAN

Being Born a Christian, practicing Christianity, and understanding Christianity are three different things and I think there is a need to briefly explain these three terms.

BEING BORN A CHRISTIAN

A child born to Christian parents automatically carries the tag “Christian”. One may be born a Christian, grow up as a Christian without practicing or understanding Christianity.
This group of people are called “CHRISTIANS BY NAME”

PRACTICING CHRISTIANITY

To be a practicing Christian, you can either be born a Christian or convert from a particular religion to Christianity. These types of Christians are strong believers in the faith and they strive to adhere to the tenets of the faith. Most Christians who fall into this category do not ‘really’ care about the source of the books in the bible, how true is the concept of trinity, etc. These groups of Christians are called “BORN AGAIN CHRISTIANS”

UNDERSTANDING CHRISTIANITY

Those who understand Christianity and are still in the religion are either skeptic Christians who are scared of renouncing the faith (maybe due to loss of job, loss of
properties, etc.) or church heads who enjoy one or two
benefits from the religion. Those who understand Christianity need to apply logic, think rationally, and not be dogmatic that is all they need to lose interest in Christianity.

Let me cite an example. A Christian who understands the
concept of trinity according to the Nicene Creed which states
that;

“We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.”

– only needs to think rationally here to free himself from believing that there is a “GOD THE FATHER” and there is a son who is the only begotten “SON OF GOD yet he is a
“GOD OF GOD”, TRUE GOD FROM TRUE GOD, yet this God the son was killed and God the holy spirit although these three persons are one. However, there are some who understand Christianity and stopped believing in it but could not stop carrying the tag “Christian” due to some particular reasons stated above

Since I cannot decide where I should be born, I can not help but to be born in a Christian home hence being a Christian by birth and also grew up as a practicing Christian. I started
to disbelieve in many teachings of Christianity when I began to study the bible personally. I was able to learn about the teachings of Christianity by asking questions and
fortunately, I get answers hence having a proper understanding of what I was born to and practicing.

Most of the answers I got negated my rational thinking and I had to keep believing thinking I need to be patient till I get out of my carnality and await the holy spirit to explain to me
because whenever I ask questions like,” If we are affected by the original sin and Jesus died to redeem us from this sin, why do women still feel pains during childbirth since this is one of the curses Jesus came to redeem us from?”, I am always told only those who are in spirit understand. (One of the curses placed on Eve is that she is going to experience pain while giving birth according to the bible).

I started to read the bible, it was when I read the bible from Genesis to Revelation for the first time that I concluded that “JESUS OF THE BIBLE IS DIFFERENT FROM JESUS OF THE CHURCH” among others which I will analyze in
this book.
