BEING A TRUE MUSLIM
The word “Islam” in Arabic means submission as well as peace. Imam A’zam Abu Hanifa (Rahmatullahi alaihi) has defined Islam as “submission and obedience to Allah’s commandments.
If the fact above are read carefully, it will automatically become clear how a Muslim should be.
A true Muslim must be clean physically and spiritually just as how “cleanliness” is one of the articles of faith in Islam.
Islam teach we Muslims much on cleanliness and how to make ourselves clean. Muslims do not enter mosques or houses with their shoes on. Their carpet, their floors remain spotless and clean, their bodies, underwear and food are always clean. In this way, they do not spread microbes and diseases.
Indeed, in countries states and houses bearing the name of Islam today, not only have we (Muslims) forgotten the knowledge of faith, but also we do not pay due attention to cleanliness and that’s very bad of us.
Most of us (mslims) have forgotten that the essence of islam is cleanliness. Poverty is no excuse for being dirty, a person splitting on the ground or dirtying a place has nothing to do with money. Such dirty people have forgotten the commandments of Allah and that of prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) on cleanliness.
My dear Muslim brothers and sisters, if each Muslim knew his religion perfectly and practice it with devotion, uncleanliness will definitely and automatically go away.
A true Muslim is clean and takes great care of his health, he never consumes alcoholic drinks, he doesn’t eat pork which has been prohibited due to the facts of its dangers and harms.
As for spiritual cleanliness, a Muslim should have a very high morality, nobility and gentility in it’s entirety. Islam commands goodness, justice and generosity to be applied to friends as well as enemies.
Spiritual purity is essential for a Muslim. A person who lies, cheats, gambles, who deceives others, cruel, unjust, commits shirk, assumes superiority, who thinks only of his advantages, is not a true Muslim no matter how much he worships. Allah said in the glorious Quran.
QURAN 107:1-3
أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ
Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense?
فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِى يَدُعُّ ٱلْيَتِيمَ
For that is the one who drives away the orphan
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ
And does not encourage the feeding of the poor.
In Islam, keeping away from the prohibitions takes a precedence over doing the commandments. A true Muslim is dignified and polite, he loves his friends and family, and his country.
A true Muslim should be a honey-tongued man or woman who should tells the truth. A true Muslim must not promise what he can’t fulfill. Allahu ta’ala said in the glorious Quran…
QURAN 61:2-3
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لِمَ تَقُولُونَ مَا لَا تَفْعَلُونَ
O you who have believed, why do you say what you do not do?
كَبُرَ مَقْتًا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ أَن تَقُولُوا۟ مَا لَا تَفْعَلُونَ
Great is hatred in sight of Allah that you say what you do not do.
Lastly, a true Muslim must be someone who adhere to the laws and commandments in the Quran and Hadith
May Allah guide us.
