BEFORE YOU PARTAKE IN ONLINE LAYLATUL QADR, READ THIS.

Can we talk about this “Virtual Laylatul Qadr” of a thing? As a Muslim, as an elite, as an intellectual that you claim to be, don’t you think it’s a big shame on you if you participate in such? Laylatul Qadr on whatsApp/Instagram/zoom? Commonsense is not common.

We all know that Islam is a religion of sincerity. We probably know that our allegiance is to Allah and His prophet (peace be upon him), not to an Alfa, not to a shaykh, not to a country, not to a place, just to Allah & His prophet.

Do you then think it’s okay to breach our oath of allegiance? Do you think it is fine to go back on our testification that we bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His messenger? If your answer is “No”, why then do we find it hard to swallow when someone tells us this is what Allah says, this is what our beloved Prophet enjoined. We all claim to love the prophet, don’t we? If truly our love for Allah and the prophet is true, we will definitely follow the Islamic injunctions without ifs and buts. For the lover is always obedient to his beloved.

Don’t you think you’re mocking your own God given intellect, your own brain, your own existence, by thinking that acts of worship in Islam can be done online? Like… observe Salat via your phone or radio or television? Don’t you think it’s so sad to even think of participating in “Online Laylatul Qadr” because your shaykh or a self-acclaimed shaykh is organizing one? Don’t you think that’s just a cheap display of the ‘Shaykh’s ‘ ignorance?

I don’t know if it’s just me, but then… Some things are commonsensical, so much that when you see a supposed ‘elite’ or ‘intellectual’ engaging in them, you start doubting if they’ve ever been smart their whole life.

I don’t think we need anyone to quote a verse from the Qur’ān or pages from the ahadith for us before we know “online / radio /television Laylatul Qadr” is a big display of ignorance. Honestly.

Because an acclaimed Shaykh or popular Alfa is organizing it does not make it permissible. On the day of judgement, when we are all being
questioned by Allah, the Alfa will not stand to intercede on your behalf. You have your sense, you have the resources, you have people to ask about the permissiblity of things, do not stray and label the one who is calling you towards Islam.

Observe your Laylatul qadr in your room, pray, cry, cry to Allah for your needs, you need nobody to do that for you. Not physically, not on radio, not on TV, not on zoom. Don’t make mockery of your Islam. Please.

I am but a conveyer of glad tidings, a conveyer of Islam as it was practiced by the prophet and our pious predecessors. If after reading this status, you still felt it’s not enough and went ahead to attend a virtual Laylatul qadr, do know that Allah will question you, question you for your arrogance, question you as to why you turned away from the truth, why you turned away from the message, and the messenger.

O you who have believed, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allah intervenes between a man and his heart and that to Him you will be gathered.

-Surah Al-Anfal, Ayah 24

May Allah grant us steadfastness and make it easy to follow His injunctions and the way of our beloved Prophet. This is but a reminder for everyone reading this, for myself.

— Aladodo Abdus-Salam.
