As Ramaḍān is approaching there is something that I would like to bring to attention, and that is the Du’ā at the time of Ifṭār (breaking fast) which is common and widespread amongst people.
? “Allaahuma Laka Ṣumtu Wa ‘Alaa Rizqika Afṭartu” (O Allāh I fasted for you and I broke it upon which you’ve provided me with) ?
This Du’ā has been declared weak by Muḥaddithīn such as Ibn Ḥajar, an-Nawawī, adh-Dhahabī, Ibn al-Qayyim, ash-Shawkānee, al-Albānī and other than them,
As for the correct Du’ā for Ifṭār it is as follows:
✔ Dhahab aẓ-Ẓama`u Wabtallatil ‘Urooq Wa Thabat al-Ajru In Shaa Allaah (The thirst is gone, the veins are moistened and the reward is confirmed, if Allāh wills) ✔ ⬅ • [Reported by Abū Dāwūd, an-Nasā`ī, al-Bazzār, al-Ḥākim, al-Bayhaqī and others]
