Union Bank Closes KnowIslam Project Bank Accounts

This is to inform our supporters and donors that our Bank accounts with Union Bank of Nigeria have been closed by the bank in what they called “considerably risks associated with your account”

In this video, I have given an account of what happened, most importantly, my conversation with the account officer.

The account officer said they discovered that donations come in from a website that promotes Islamization, the website being knowislam.com.ng. When I accused her of profiling and stereotype, she sought to rephrase what she said and began to record to choose her words carefully. However, she couldn’t help again by ask why my name is Bashir Lucas Samson Lukman and when I asked if it’s a problem, she couldn’t proceed further.

The bank have no details of any risk but from the account officer’s statements, we could make some inference.

Last month, we withdrew some funds during the Ileya livestock purchase in Gombe, being the first time ever but the account officer asked, “why do you withdraw in Gombe all the time?”

Combating terrorism is not just the role of the government, the Muslim community, most importantly, must become actively involved especially in the aspect of debunking false narratives that Muslims are terrorists or that Islam promotes terrorism. These narratives stick and if left unattended to, a Muslim can become a stranger in his own land.
