“Imam, the rate at which women abort their babies these days is alarming. I’m only telling you this in confidence. And it’s unfortunate that those who are seen to be pious in the eyes of the people are equally involved in the mess,” lamented a female doctor.
Talk on abortion was emphasized like no other issue at the last Jumu’ah. It was a hard hit on the culprits of the criminality. I couldn’t believe my tongue could be that harsh on any matter.
A few days later, a woman engaged me in a chat and confessed how guilty she was as regards the subject hammered. She could not control her eyes dropping tears of guilt and regret. She was sober, and I was moved. She wondered if she would be forgiven. And I did assure her she would, if her tawbah was beyond her lips.
Husbands and wives alike are guilty of murdering their own would-be children. Today, pregnancies are terminated for reasons not tenable to logic. They cease the lives of fellow creatures they cannot mould let alone breathe in life. What gut!
Pregnancies are aborted because of what gossips in the neighbourhood would say – that they should have put a stop to child-bearing after the last one. Some don’t want to be seen having more than two children. And where their mating is leading them to the third one, they seek to kill the innocent fetus. That’s murder!
Pregnancies are terminated if had not long after the last birth. If the plan is to have another baby after a few years, and a pregnancy crops up contrary to plans, elimination is resorted to with immediate alacrity. When will you (and perhaps your spouse) realize that yours is to propose, the Knower of that which you desire may decide to dispose of your plans. You can’t run away from your destiny; it’s been conclusively decided. If you are destined to have ten, abort twenty times, you will not have less than what has been written for you.
Pregnancies are terminated for fear of poverty – what the child would eat, how his education would be funded etc. usually occupy the minds of those abortion criminals. They’ve forgotten that provisions are solely done by Allah.
“Do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Surely killing them is a heinous sin.”
[Surat Al-Isra’ 31]
Islam permits child spacing i.e. bridging gap between an existing child and one yet conceived. But where menstruation ceases and pregnancy signalled, a good, pious Muslim will take fate in his faith and will never allow shaytan battle him victoriously.
Abortion is evil except in some exceptional cases that are undeniably obvious. That’s a discussion for another day.
