UMMAH CARE FOR THE INMATES FOUNDATION (UCIF)’S DEBUT CONFERENCE

Members of the general public are cordially invited to the debut Conference of the Ummah Care for the Inmates Foundation (UCIF) billed to hold on 21st December, 2019 at the Lagos State Secretariat’s Mosque Hall, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos. The Ummah Care for the Inmates Foundation is an NGO that is responsible for the care and attending to the needs of Muslim inmates in our Correctional Centers in Nigeria.

In less than four (4) of its existence, the UCIF has been touching the lives of inmates in so many ways. We have been able to cover all the western states of Nigeria and some parts of the Northern-Nigeria. We hope to extend our activities to other parts of the country in the nearest future.

It is important for us to attend this coming Conference. By Allah, we Muslims are lagging behind in this kind of project, and it is saddening. The disbelievers have hijacked them from us. They use it as an opportunity to lure poor and ignorant Muslims to their kufr. I once watched a video where the disbelievers were distributing envelopes suspected to be filled with money to poor Muslims.

We have a lot to do in attending to the welfare of the Muslims. It is incumbent upon us to wake up from our slumber before it is too late because Allah would ask us all. We need to wake up and attend to the plight of fellow Muslims and the indigents in our society.

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم taught us many things that many Muslims are neglecting. Instead of sticking to Sunnah, they innovate things that Allah and His Messenger صلى الله عليه did not legislate for us. One of the things that we learn from Sunnah is that whoever attend to the plight of his fellow Muslims, Allah would attend to his concerns too. In recent time, we have been seeing Islamic NGOs who are trying their best to lessen the burden of Muslims in the areas of health care, education and general well-being. But we need to do more. Our brothers and sisters in the Correctional Centers (Prisons) are really suffering. The government can’t do it alone. Our Correctional Centers are congested. They need our help. We need volunteers all over the Federation. Whatever we do to lessen their burdens, let us know that Allah would reward us handsomely.

The forthcoming Conference is for the purpose of solving myriads of challenges facing Nigerian Muslim Inmates at Correctional Centers all over the Federation, proffer solutions those problems and deliberate on the prospects of da’wah at Correctional Centers championed by UCIF since 2017.

The Conference will equally discuss the problem of stigmatization of visitors of Correctional Centers by members of the public. Consequently, we have invited a jurist and an expert in common and Islamic law, Hon. Justice Abdur-Raheem Ahmad Sayi, a Kadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal, Ilorin, Kwara State, to deliver a lecture on the topic: Stigmatization of Inmates, Ex-convicts and the Excellence of Prisons Dawah Volunteerism.

The Conference will also look into the possibility of providing free legal services to Muslim inmates who may not be able to afford the cost of legal representation to aid their freedom and to assist them with post-correctional empowerment. We have also invited one of us, a legal luminary who has been in the forefront of the struggle for fighting for the rights of inmates, Bar. Ahmad Adetola-Kazeem to talk on the topic: Empowerment of the Inmates: A Tool for Economic Development.
