Reno Omokri is one of the few critical-thinking Christians who dare to question the Church especially contemporary Church Doctrines that have no root in the Bible or results of distortions and misinterpreted texts.

From my experience, highly intelligent Christians respect the religion of Islam and do not believe that Muslims are terrorists. However, there is always that problem; how to really follow Jesus of the Bible against Jesus of the Church.

During my last days as a Christian, I had stopped believing in the concept of Trinity, that the Bible is the undiluted word of God, limiting tithe to just money and some other Church teachings. Like many other critical thinkers, I was tired of the Church, but not of Jesus. Looking into other religions led me to Islam that gave me the Jesus that was, that miraculous messenger of God. Unfortunately, many people who are in my shoes of then only pick the English Qur’an, read a thing or two, and think they have understood Islam. Understanding is not based on respect but study.

Reno made some claims in his response to Yassir’s invitation to Islam that I think it is important to put things in proper perspective lest people get deceived and think that they have learned something new about Islam.

Waraqah Ibn Nawfal

Reno wrote;

Do you know the first man Prophet Mohammed (SAW) discussed with when he got his revelation? It was a man called Waraqah ibn Nawfal, who was not only a Christian, but a priest, and a man who was so well versed in Scripture that he translated it into Arabic.

Here, Reno shows us that he does not know the full story of Waraqah ibn Nawfal, a well-respected man in Islam, therefore, he was making a point with a half story.

Waraqah is the first paternal Cousin of the Prophet’s wife, Khadija. He (Waraqah) was among the first to believe in the prophethood of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). When he was informed of the first revelation, Qur’an Chapter 96, Waraqah did not just accept the Prophethood of Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), he said,

“There has come to him the greatest Law that came to Moses; surely he is the prophet of this people”.

‘Aaisha (the Prophet’s wife) narrated,  “The Prophet returned to Khadija while his heart was beating rapidly. She took him to Waraqa bin Naufal who was a Christian convert and used to read the Gospel in Arabic. Waraqa asked (the Prophet), ‘What do you see?’ When he told him, Waraqa said, ‘That is the same angel whom Allah sent to the Prophet Moses. Should I live till you receive the Divine Message, I will support you strongly” – Sahih Bukhari – Volume 4, Book 55, Number 605

In another narration, ‘Aaisha said,

“Khadija then accompanied him to her cousin Waraqa bin Naufal bin Asad bin ‘Abdul ‘Uzza, who, during the pre-Islamic Period became a Christian and used to write the writing with Hebrew letters. He would write from the Gospel in Hebrew as much as Allah wished him to write. He was an old man and had lost his eyesight. Khadija said to Waraqa, “Listen to the story of your nephew, O my cousin!” Waraqa asked, “O my nephew! What have you seen?” Allah’s Apostle described whatever he had seen. Waraqa said, “This is the same one who keeps the secrets (angel Gabriel) whom Allah had sent to Moses. I wish I were young and could live up to the time when your people would turn you out.” Allah’s Apostle asked, “Will they drive me out?” Waraqa replied in the affirmative and said, “Anyone (man) who came with something similar to what you have brought was treated with hostility; and if I should remain alive till the day when you will be turned out then I would support you strongly.” – Volume 1, Book 1, Number 3.

Unfortunately, Waraqah was a very old man and died some days later while the revelation of the Qur’an went on for over 20 years after the death of Waraqah.

From the cited Hadiths, Waraqah believed in Prophet Muhammad, he attested to his Prophethood and was going to support him but for his death. Whatever point Reno was trying to make, Waraqah believed in the Prophet, is Reno Omokri ready to believe in Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) as did Waraqah give that Reno has access to the full revelation Waraqah was not privileged to?

As for Reno’s other claims of Jesus being his Lord and Saviour and the only BEGOTTEN Son of God, I have refuted them in this video; https://youtu.be/zbD5RVD9-VU

Hopefully, I and Reno Omokri will discuss the Crucifixion of Jesus one day. I am really looking forward to it.
