A racist who ripped a veil from a Muslim woman’s face and told her ‘Our Britain, you live by our fucking rules’ will be sentenced next week.
Peter Scotter, who targeted the woman at a shopping centre in Sunderland last July, will learn his fate next Friday.
The assault was carried out in front of the victim’s terrified nine-year-old son.
The 56-year-old arrived at Newcastle Crown Court this morning and confronted a photographer on his way in.
He asked ‘What are you taking pictures of me for?’ before telling him to ‘fuck off’.
The defendant had approached the woman, who was waiting for her husband outside a store in Sunderland’s Bridges shopping centre.
He tore off her niqab veil and the force he used almost threw her to the ground.
The court heard in February how Scotter shouted: ‘Take that fucker off you stupid fucking Muslim’ during the attack, along with other racist slurs.
As he walked away he was heard saying: ‘Our Britain, you live by our fucking rules.’
The defendant, who suffers from mouth cancer, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated assault.
He also admitted a charge of racially aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress. Scotter was due to be sentenced today, but the case has been repeatedly adjourned due to his cancer diagnosis.
He has 66 previous convictions for 157 offences, including actual bodily harm, breaching a Football Banning Order and racially aggravated criminal damage.
The attack occurred when reports of racial abuse were on the rise following Britain’s vote to leave the EU.
