Stepping out of the house yesterday (the first day of the lockdown order), I could not but imagine how this transient, temporal world would come to an end someday. Roads were deserted of pedestrian and vehicular engagements, and shops locked up against merchandise of any kind. The environment was sadly serene – extremely so – that the drop of a needle would cacophonously sound like a rocket.

Looking right, left, back and forth got me thinking about how all on earth would eventually cease to live: how humans and animals would have given up the ghost and it would become incontrovertible that unequalled sovereignty belonged to the uncreated Creator.

My thinking journey got my brain puzzled thus: “What exactly is the world afraid of?” I soliloquized. “It is an infinitesimal creature that no eye however microscopic has ever sighted – a virus that may be smaller than the smallest of ants,” I muttered.

Coronavirus is that thing that has kept the world on its knees begging for freedom from its siege, forcing countries to lock down their economies and the citizens kept fearfully indoors. It is however laughable that atheists who had belittled the might of the Creator could also believe and run fearfully from a mere virus created by Him. Isn’t it time persons with such shallow thinking turned to the Creator in repentance? The tiny creature got Italy helplessly and haplessly humbled that her Prime Minister could not help crying to the Creator for a succour. Donald Trump did not only call for a national prayer for his led-country, an imam was invited to help invoke the Lord in the Islamic way. The hurtful hit of the coronavirus got him succumb to the potency of a faith he is not faithful to. Laa hawla walaa quwwata illaa biLLaah!

The pandemic of coronavirus is an indisputable indication that Someone is in charge of the affairs of this world. He creates whatever He likes, does with them whatever that pleases Him and empowers them as He so wishes. Allah says:
لِلَّهِ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَاءُ…
“To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills…”
[Surat Ash-Shura 49]

The Day of Judgement is said to be more panic-filled than what the world is currently experiencing of coronavirus. It’s a Day the graves will open up for the humans therein to rise up for account; the Day all will be unknowingly, unavoidably naked. It’s a Day fathers will know no son nor daughters recognizing their mothers. If a mere virus could hold you down in panic, how much more the Day the virus will assume no importance?

Isn’t it time you humbled yourself in repentance to the Lord of corona and accorded Him His due reverence? Kindly take a cue from Suratul Infitaar (Qur’an 82). Read digestively from the beginning to the end. There are only 19 verses therein.
