TREATMENT OF WOMEN IN ISLAM

BismilLaahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

Taking good care of women and treating them with kindness is an act of worship and whoever treats women especially our wives badly is committing a major sin. Marriage is not slavery but companionship which is a trust from Allah and He will judge us as to how we treated our wives.

Allah says in the Qur’an:
وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
“Live with them in kindness.” Surat An-Nisa 4:19. This is a command from Allah not a request, as such whoever goes against the commands of Allaah is committing a major sin.

Our beloved Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, also commanded us to treat women well by saying;
“Treat women well, for woman is created from a rib and the most curved portion of the rib is its upper portion. If you try to straighten it, it will break, but if you leave it as it is, it will remain curved. So treat women with kindness.” Sahih Bukhari 3153. To be continued in shaa Allaah. *_May Allah aid us to treat our women well purely for Allah sake not base on their attitude_*. Aameen.

Messenger of Allaah. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, said:
“How does one of you beat his wife as he beats the stallion camel and then embrace her?” Sahih Bukhari 5695. This is a warning from the Prophet that no one should beat his wife. Your wife may have a bad attitude but beating her can only worsen the situation, imagine you are using your China phone and it freezes, are you going to be patient for it to respond or you start beating or hitting it?

The Messenger gave an alternative way to handle such woman by saying: “A believer should not despise a believing woman. If he finds something in her character he dislikes, he will be pleased by something else.” Sahih Muslim 1469. This means we should be patient with them and also look for their good side not bad. To be continued in Shaa Allaah. *_May Allah keep guiding us all and protect us from any satanic influences_*. Aameen.

The best of teachers, Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family thought us how to handle immoral wife by saying:
“I enjoin you to treat women well, for they are like captives in your hand. Verily, you may not treat them otherwise unless they commit flagrant immorality. If they do so, then you may separate from their beds and strike them without causing pain but if they return to good conduct, then you may do nothing against them. You have rights over your wives and they have rights over you. Your right is that they will not allow anyone you dislike to enter your home, and their right is that you should treat them well regarding food and clothing.”
Sunan At-Tirmidhi 1163. To strike her is not to beat her as some ignorants interpret it. Scholars gave example as using miswaak (tooth stick) to hit your child for his or attention to you. The Prophet never hit any of his wives so let’s follow the Sunnah.

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, said:
“The most complete of the believers in faith are those with the best character, and the best of you are the best in behavior to their women.”
Sunan At-Tirmidhi 1162. May Allah aid us to apply the teachings of Allah and His Messenger in our ways of daily life. Aameen.
