Professor Ajibade Lawal of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso has been suspended as Dean, Faculty of Nursing over his indictment in the Institution’s ongoing alleged molestation and harassment of a Hijab-wearing student.
The Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Liasu while responding to the MSSN delegation’s plights, said he has “instructed the Provost of College of Health Science to suspend Professor Ajibade as Dean of the faculty of Nursing”. Additionally, the VC has set up an investigative panel to get to the root of the incident, and that, the matter wouldn’t be carpeted”.
News Live Nigeria reliably gathered that the said Professor has been notorious with the act of molesting and victimizing Muslim students on campus.
A release signed by the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, Oyo Area Unit PRO, Adepoju Hussayn said, “Eight-man delegation of MSSN Oyo state area unit arrived LAUTECH, Ogbomoso early hours of Thursday the 18th day of November, 2021 . Their first point of call was to express their solidarity and support for the Muslim Students on the ugly incidence and dissuade them from any violent activities that can break down law and order.
” Thereafter, the team proceeded to have a brief meeting with the school Imam and the leadership of LAUTECH Muslim Community (LMC) on the issue. Rising from the meeting, all the stakeholders moved directly to meet with the VC, Professor Liasu who welcomed and honoured the Area unit crew of MSSN .
” The purpose of the meeting with the VC was to register our grievances on the despicable occurrence and demand for justice for the molested sister .
” The VC of the institution explained that he had many versions of the story and in his wisdom, requested that the concerned Nursing student and her husband be invited to the meeting since they were both available on campus, in order for everyone to hear from the horse’s mouth. The husband was not comfortable with the sitting, hence getting the first hand detailed information from the victim (the wife) proved abortive”.
However, the fact-finding and solidarity delegation of the MSSN OAU appealed to the management to look into the following requests, that:
” The school management should issue a public document condemning the inept conduct of the erring Professor and prohibiting any staff of the institution from harasing or embarrassing any Muslim student(s) dressed according to his or her religious belief particularly the Medicine and Nursing students.
If Prof. Ajibade Lawal was found guilty, appropriate sanctions and punishment should be meted on him. And, finally the school management, as a matter of urgency implement the resolution on the usage of Hijab by any willing Muslim female student of the LAUTECH staff school”.
