The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has locked down Qatif, in the eastern province to curtail the spread of the virus, COVID-19.
The step was announced some hours after Italy a quarantine of Lombardy, in the northern region and other areas that are severely affected. With 16 million impacted, Italy is accounting for the biggest confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in Europe.
The move came as Italy struggles to contain the virus’s spread, with 1,247 new cases detected in the last 24 hours. Another 36 people also died as a result of the virus, taking the total to 233.
The number of people diagnosed with the new coronavirus now exceeds 106,000 worldwide with several new countries reporting their first cases. Nearly 3,600 people have died.
