Religion is nothing new; atheism is not also alien to us. Among us are the believers in the existence of a Creator. There is no doubt on the other side are the ones who rejects this “fact”. Religion is false they chant; where is the Creator they claim. This perfect creation happened spontaneously they hypothesise.
I agree dogmatism can be dangerously misleading. If religion is true, it has to face certain questions, and that’s what you have to do to achieve the faith you need. Contrary to the lies peddled for ages, Islam and the existence of Allah, the maker and only Creator can be proven effortlessly. The Qu’ran on one hand and sword on the other wouldn’t have sustain the religion this far. Shame on the liars, Islam is still the fastest growing religion.
Wouldn’t you like someone to show you proof of the existence of God? No dancing in circles. There are no statements about “you just have to believe” and so on.
Well, here I am only honestly trying to suggest some reasons why you should believe that Allah is our Creator. Read the following five reasons that can help you strengthen your belief in Allah (swt).
1). You don’t have to look at your Creator to know He exists:
Yeah, I’ll throw it to your face. You must not see what you believe in. There are things you believe in but don’t see, like gravity, love, and jealousy. You can only see their effect or result, but you cannot touch or feel any of them. You may now think and argue the difference between us and animals because we can understand things even when we can’t see them. An animal must see or feel danger and then it will react. We can understand that something is dangerous even if we don’t see or experience it. If we see a painting without seeing the artist in action, we will not deny the existence of the artist. In the same way, we can believe that Allah created all things without seeing (or touching or hearing, etc.) Him when He created us He gave us free will and intelligence to acknowledge the many signs that show that He is the creator and creator of nature.
2). Everything we can feel is designed and made:
Let’s talk a little about you. You are the most intelligent being on earth. You are a living and breathing machine that is wonderfully designed. You have a brilliant brain and five amazing senses. With all five senses you will find that everything around you is consciously designed and created.
You can divide the objects around you into 2 groups:
-Man-made and;
-The ones given by nature
Let’s take a closer look at the things people do. How do you know if an object is man made? Take your phone or tablet as an example; We know it’s made because someone gave it shape, decided how thin and shiny it was, and gave it colour. You haven’t watched the entire design process or seen the Chinese factory workers who put it together, but you know it all happened. When you have taken all that you feel, e.g. Music, perfume, YouTube videos, or smoothies, they’re all made by someone and take time and effort: that’s for sure.
Now let’s move on to living things in nature. So who made it? Just like man-made objects, living things like you, sunflower, cat or moon have size, shape and color, they can grow, but only to a certain height, and then stop. All living things have a beginning and an end. You were born and one day you will die. Plants, animals, sun, stars have an end date. If you think that a complex phone must have a designer, then it makes sense to say the more complex “machine” ie. humans or the earth also have a creator.
3). The Big Bang doesn’t come by itself:
Scientists believe that our universe began with a tremendous explosion of energy and light that we now call the Big Bang. The Big Bang theory states that the universe started from a very hot and dense point 12-15 billion years ago and something at that point caused an explosion that led to the beginning of the universe. Since then, the universe has expanded from that one point.
Scientists have no explanation for the sudden explosion of light and matter. But surprisingly long before the invention of the telescope, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) recited a verse from the Qur’an to his companions which finally explained that the universe is expanding.
Adh-Dhariyat 51:47
And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.
At the time the Qur’an was revealed, the word “space” was unknown and people used the word “heaven” to refer to what is on earth. In the above verse, the word “heaven” refers to the cosmos and the known universe. The verse says that space, and with it the universe, is expanding. It is noteworthy that the Qur’an mentioned such a fact many centuries before the invention of the first telescope, at a time when there was still primitive knowledge in science. This is more true because Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), like many people of his time, was not officially taught to read and could not have realized the facts on his own. He will only know this through divine revelation from the Creator and Originator of the universe.
The Qur’an also mentions:
Ya Sin 36:81
Is not He who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the likes of them? Yes, [it is so]; and He is the Knowing Creator.
Ya Sin 36:82
His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, “Be,” and it is.
The above verses show that the universe had a beginning, that God was behind its creation, and all God had to do to create was say, “Be” and it was so. This is the explanation for the “big bang” that caused the beginning of the universe. The big bang wouldn’t have been spontaneous and remained perfect.
4). All living things are subject to definite laws of nature:
The universe functions according to uniform laws of nature. Many things in life may seem uncertain, but look at what we can rely on day in and day out: gravity remains constant, the earth rotates in 24 hours and the speed of light does not change – on earth or in galaxies far from us. How can we identify the unchanging laws of nature? Why is the universe so orderly, so reliable? By mistake? Nay!
We all need food, water, air, warmth and sunlight to survive. We depend on these things, but we have no control over them. We are not as independent as we think. Who guarantees that we will receive these things every day? We can say that we are kittens who depend on caregivers for milk and shelter. But who takes care of our daily needs?
There are certain instincts that we share with animals. For example, no one tells us to have friends, we just crave for friends. As we age, we find the opposite sex attractive and want a relationship. We have no control over how our bodies change during puberty. Who puts these feelings, needs, and desires in us? Just nature?
Humans can clone animals, transplant hearts, fertilize eggs in petri dishes, plastic surgeons can restructure your nose, straighten your legs, enlarge your buttocks, and do so many other changes to your body but they can only work with existing human bodies, they can’t resurrect the dead or stop people from dying. The complexity of the laws of nature shows a conscious designer, Allah (swt), who not only created us with needs, but also generously nurtures and cares for us.
5). Allah encourages us to have faith in Him consciously:
In the Qur’an, Allah encourages us to use our minds and realize that He created the world around us:
Aal-e-Imran 3:190
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.
An-Nahl 16:65
And Allah has sent down rain from the sky and given life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who listen.
Luqman 31:11
This is the creation of Allah . So show Me what those other than Him have created. Rather, the wrongdoers are in clear error.
An-Nur 24:45
Allah has created every [living] creature from water. And of them are those that move on their bellies, and of them are those that walk on two legs, and of them are those that walk on four. Allah creates what He wills. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.
Once we realize that we were created and have God, a natural question arises: Why did God create us? What is the meaning or purpose of our existence? If you were born into a Muslim family, you will be told that Allah exists and is your Creator, but it is often assumed that you will simply believe. Allah himself encourages us to think about His signs.
The signs are numerous. Having thoughts that try to understand your religion or God is normal, and people of all religions will at some point question their beliefs. Our ability to think and change is a unique quality.
May Allah’s guidance never depart from us. Ameen.
