The Covid 19 saga comes with a lot of lessons. In my opinion, the most important lesson to the Muslim community is to sit up and retrace it’s step backwards and regain it’s position in the field of medicine. This will come a long way in reducing the cost of medicines and increase availability of health care for all.
Muslims are not miracle seekers, our religion is that of practicality. The Prophet Muhammad said “There is no illness that has no cure.”, this is just one among the numerous statements of the Prophet that made Muslims institutionalize what we have come to know as modern medicine today.
My most favourite Hadith, especially in this Covid period is:
“في الحبة السوداء شفاء من كل داء، إلا السام”
“There is healing in black cumin for all diseases except death“
Black cumin, a.k.a Nigella sativa is known to be an effective remedy for :
Cough
Paralysis
Intrinsic
Diabetes
e.t.c
Its oil, Thymoquinone is said to also be effective on :
Viruses
Bacteria
Parasite

We need to really get our hands dirty, and get down to work, especially those brothers and sisters of ours that are already in the line of medicine.
Finally, in Prophetic medicine, there is a concept known as Himaya, which simply means protection, or more generally, prevention of illnesses. In another Prophetic hadith, the Prophet says:
“The stomach is the well of the body and the veins drink from it. If it is healthy, the veins pass on good health, if it is sick the veins pass on poison”
Interestingly, the main cause of fatality in varioius diseases and especially Covid 19 is with those who might have damaged their lungs with smoking cigarettes, damaged their liver and kidney with beer, booze, alcohol and so on. Covid 19 just closes the door and throws away the key.
Obey the Prophet, stop putting poisons into your systems, this is why many things include pig and other filth are prohibited for you.
We need to sit up.
