The poisoning of Muhammad (PBUH); What is the big deal? By Sanusi Olawale ibn AbdulWasiu

August 28, 2018 Comparative Religion Uncategorized 0

If there are people who don’t use their brains well, the critics of Muhammad (PBUH) are inclusive. Does the poisoning of the Prophet a yard stick to measure his authenticity as a true messenger and prophet of the Creator of all creatures?

In case these people have forgotten, let me bring to their remembrance that Prophets were human. All of them lived like every other human. What made them different is their divine selection to be Prophets.
Having said that, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) should also be expected to live like every other human. Many calamities have befallen various Prophets. Ibrahim(Abraham) was thrown into fire, Ayyub (Job) suffered from a life threatening disease, Yusuf (Joseph) was imprisoned, among many others. Does these trials mean they are fake Prophets?

Before I proceed, it’s important I let you know what prompted this write-up. Christians have not finished studying their holy book to defend the inconsistencies, contradictions and fallacies their in, they want to tell us what is wrong with our own holy book.
The following is an extract from the foolish claims and conclusions of these confused sheep as Jesus called them (John 10:27).
Kindly read…

“Quran 69:44-47
45. “We would have seized him by the right hand;”

Did Muhammad have his aorta cut off? Yes!

Sahih Al-Bukhari Volume 5, Book 59, Number 713:
… Narrated ‘Aisha: THE PROPHET IN HIS AILMENT IN WHICH HE DIED, used to say, “O ‘Aisha! I still feel the pain caused by the food I ate at Khaibar, and at this time, I FEEL AS IF MY AORTA IS BEING CUT from that poison.”

Was anyone able to save Muhammad like Allah vowed? No!
(Sura 69:47)

Did Muhammad die due to that? Yes!
The same hadith reads:

Therefore, everything in Islam and the Quran is false.  Fabricated by Muhammad.”

Ignorance plus deep hatred for truth blindfolded the conveyer of the above fallacy, the Qur’an verse and the hadith quoted are already self defeating for the person. They have proven the ignorance of the conveyer.

The Arabic word translated as “aorta” in Surah 69, Ayah 46 is different from the word used in the hadith (Saheeh Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 59, Number 713 & Sunan Abu Dawood, Book 39‏).
The word translated as “aorta” in 69:46 is al-wateen , while the word used in the hadith is “al abhar”.

From the above extract, the main aim is to deceive the readers that Muhammad (PBUH) lied about Qur’an and that was why he died. That is a stinking lie! Why would Allah waited for 23 years before killing him if he had been lying for that period? It makes no sense. Revelations from God are not what anyone can fabricate and get away with it.
According to 1John 4:2, any spirit that attests to the coming of Jesus Christ is from God. And that was what Muhammad did. Lying against God is not something to joke about. Let me bring a typical example of lying against God in the Bible, and the immediate punishment.

Acts 5:1-11 New International Version (NIV)

Ananias and Sapphira

1 Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property.
2 With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.
3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?
4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”
5 When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened.
6 Then some young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him.
7 About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.
8 Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?”
“Yes,” she said, “that is the price.”
9 Peter said to her, “How could you conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also.”
10 At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.
11 Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.

Qur’an cannot be a lie. That has been demonstrated overtimes. Qur’an tells us about events that has happened before Muhammad accurately and foretell events of the future.

Now back to the issue of poisoning and the death of Muhammad(PBUH).
Someone might ask, why was the prophet poisoned? who did it? and why?

Anas reported that a Jewess came to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) with poisoned mutton and he took of that what had been brought to him (Allah’s Messenger). (When the effect of this poison were felt by him) he called for her and asked her about that, whereupon she said:

I had determined to kill you. Thereupon he said: Allah will never give you the power to do it. He (the narrator) said that they (the Companion’s of the Holy Prophet) said: Should we not kill her? Thereupon he said: No. He (Anas) said: I felt (the affects of this poison) on the uvula of Allah’s Messenger.
(Sahih Muslim)

Narrated Abu Huraira:

When Khaibar was conquered, a roasted poisoned sheep was presented to the Prophet (ﷺ) as a gift (by the Jews). The Prophet (ﷺ) ordered, “Let all the Jews who have been here, be assembled before me.” The Jews were collected and the Prophet (ﷺ) said (to them), “I am going to ask you a question. Will you tell the truth?” They said, “Yes.” The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, “Who is your father?” They replied, “So-and-so.” He said, “You have told a lie; your father is so-and-so.” They said, “You are right.” He said, “Will you now tell me the truth, if I ask you about something?” They replied, “Yes, O Abu Al-Qasim; and if we should tell a lie, you can realize our lie as you have done regarding our father.” On that he asked, “Who are the people of the (Hell) Fire?” They said, “We shall remain in the (Hell) Fire for a short period, and after that you will replace us.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “You may be cursed and humiliated in it! By Allah, we shall never replace you in it.” Then he asked, “Will you now tell me the truth if I ask you a question?” They said, “Yes, O Abu Al-Qasim.” He asked, “Have you poisoned this sheep?” They said, “Yes.” He asked, “What made you do so?” They said, “We wanted to know if you were a liar in which case we would get rid of you, and if you are a prophet then the poison would not harm you.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari)

In other narrations, some Companions of the Prophet died from the poison. But why didn’t the prophet die?
Simply because it wasn’t his time yet, and that Allah wanted to make it a proof to attest to his divine prophet-hood. If he had died instantly from the poison, the Jews would have boasted of killing the prophet and getting rid of him. But even if he had died instantly, would that have amounted to falsehood? No. It won’t make the Prophet a liar, it would rather solidify his prophet-hood. The Jews have been known for killing of Prophets.

“And [recall] when you said, “O Moses, we can never endure one [kind of] food. So call upon your Lord to bring forth for us from the earth its green herbs and its cucumbers and its garlic and its lentils and its onions.” [Moses] said, “Would you exchange what is better for what is less? Go into [any] settlement and indeed, you will have what you have asked.” And they were covered with humiliation and poverty and returned with anger from Allah [upon them]. That was because they [repeatedly] disbelieved in the signs of Allah and killed the prophets without right. That was because they disobeyed and were [habitually] transgressing. Indeed, those who believed and those who were Jews or Christians or Sabeans [before Prophet Muhammad] – those [among them] who believed in Allah and the Last Day and did righteousness – will have their reward with their Lord, and no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve. [Quran 2:61-62]

One may ask if it is true that the Jews have killed Prophets before. Wether the critics like it, Allah’s Revelation (Qur’an) cannot be a lie. Let us see a confirmatory passage from the Bible.

1kings 19:14
“He replied, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”

That was prophet Elijah confessing the atrocities of the Jews.

Jeremiah 2:30
“I have struck your sons in vain; they accepted no discipline. Your own sword has devoured your prophets like a voracious lion.”

That is Yahweh, reminding these prophet killers their atrocities.

As we have seen, it is not something new for the Jews to kill Prophets. If these Jews were not so remorseful to kill their own fellow Jewish Prophets, the Arabian by indigene Prophet shouldn’t be expected to be free from their evil moves.

However, Muslims have been challenged over times to name some Prophets killed by the Jews.
The Book of the Bee is an historical theological compilation containing numerous Biblical legends. It was written by Solomon of Akhlat , a Syrian Nestorian Bishop of Bassora (Basrah) around 1222. It is written in Syriac. In a translated version from the Syriac text by W. Budge, the following are the list of the Prophets that has been killed by the Jews.

1. MANASSEH the son of Hezekiah slew Isaiah with a wooden saw; he was buried before the outfall of the waters which Hezekiah concealed by the side of Siloah.

2. Habakkuk (was) of the tribe of Simeon, and from the land of Sûâr (Zoar). This (prophet) prophesied concerning the Messiah, that He should come, and abrogate the laws of the Jews. He brought food to Daniel at Babylon by the divine (or, angelic) agency. The Jews stoned him in Jerusalem.

3. The Jews stoned Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah in Egypt, because he rebuked them for worshipping idols; and the Egyptians buried him by the side of Pharaoh’s palace. The Egyptians loved him much, because he prayed and the beasts died which used to come up from the river Nile and devour men. These beasts were called ‘crocodiles.’ When Alexander the son of Philip, the Macedonian, came (to Egypt), he made enquiries about his grave, and took and brought him to Alexandria.

4. Ezekiel the son of Buzi was of the priestly tribe, and from the land of Serîdâ. The chief of the Jews who was in the land of the Chaldeans slew him, because he rebuked him for worshipping idols. He was buried in the grave of Arphaxar, the son of Shem, the son of Noah.

5. Zechariah the son of Berachiah, the priest, was from Jerusalem. Joash the king slew this (prophet) between the steps and the altar, and sprinkled his blood upon the horns of the altar, and the priests buried him. From that day God forsook the temple, and angels were never again seen in it.

Why did I bring up these cases? It is to prove that he Jews have been known for killing of Prophets. So if they thought prophet Muhammad wasn’t a true Prophet of God, there wouldn’t have been attempts to end his life. The attempts to kill him for no reason proves he is a Prophet of God. If we are to go by the logic of these critics, are we to reject all the Prophets that have been killed for saying the truth and taking their people to worship the one and only God? Does their killings falsify their prophet-hood? Where was God when they were killed?

And if Muhammad had lied against Allah, there wouldn’t be any need to poison him. Ananias and Sapphira were not poisoned before they were killed by God for Lying.

The death of the Prophet came much later after the incident ofthe poisoning.
The Prophet used to feel ill because of this food, and he would be treated with cupping for that.

Ahmad (2784) narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas that a Jewish woman sent a gift to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) of a poisoned roasted sheep. He sent for her and asked her, “What made you do what you did?” She said, “I wanted to see if you were a Prophet, then Allaah would tell you about it, and if you were not a Prophet the people would be rid of you.” Whenever the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) felt ill as a result of that he would have himself treated by cupping. On one occasion he traveled and when he entered ihraam he felt ill as a result of that and he had himself treated by cupping. The editor of al-Musnad classed it as saheeh.

That had an impact in causing his death, so he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) died as a martyr (shaheed), as Ibn Mas’ood (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

“If I were to swear by Allah nine times that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was killed, that is more beloved to me than swearing once, because Allah made him a Prophet and made him a martyr.” Narrated by Ahmad, 3617. The editors said, its isnaad is saheeh according to the conditions of Muslim.

Al-Sindi said: The words “he was killed” mean by the poison in the meat of the sheep’s foreleg that he ate, when the effects of that appeared when he was dying.
Quoted from Haashiyat al-Musnad, 6/116.

Al-Bukhaari narrated in his Saheeh, in a mu’allaq report, and al-Haakim narrated in his Mustadrakin a mawsool report, that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to say, in the illness which would be his last, ‘O ‘Aa’ishah, I still feel the pain of the food that I ate in Khaybar, and this time I feel that my aorta is being cut from that poison.”

The aorta is the vein that is towards the back and is connected to the heart; if it is cut then the person will die.

The conquest of Khaybar took place in Muharram or Rabee’ al-Awwal of the year 7 AH. So this event took place four years before the Prophet died.

This is in addition to the recorded crimes of the Jews which know no limit in ancient or modern times.
The prophet did not die from the poison instantly as Allah willed, that proves whoever his/her time has not reached, the entire universe cannot kill the person.

So, the death of the Prophet and the cut of the aorta as used in the hadith does not mean he (Muhammad) died because of his lie. Qur’an is a Revelation from Allah. And it has remained so for years.

Either killed or not, he wouldn’t have lived beyond what was written for him.

And Allah knows best!
