THE PEN: HOW TO BENEFIT FROM YOUR WRITINGS By Abu Maryam Ibn Is’haq (Abumaribi)
THE PEN: HOW TO BENEFIT FROM YOUR WRITINGS
“…By the Pen and the (Record) which (men) write.” (Surah Al-Qalam, 68:1)
The Pen; a writing device used in putting down ones thought, ideas, insight and knowledge. The pen makes it possible for one to communicate knowledge and understanding to other people, for them to derive insight, wisdom, and inference from the writer or the maker of the wordings to be read.
The pen activities can be on a paper format; which can be in form of; writing words in a book, publish paper book, novels, journals, news paper, and the likes. The pen activities can also be on virtual format; which makes one to share information or knowledge, and in the form of eBooks, articles, drama, Poetry or News, to others through the use of electronic device (internet, mobile phone, computer, or the social network). Nowadays, the virtual activities of the pen is the most widely used and widely spread means of communication, as compared to the days back (old days). This because the virtual platform of the pen activities can be easily shared without much stress and cost.
The pen functions is of varieties to mankind life, as it serves as the primary means through which knowledge is spread to those that need it for beneficial purpose. Others can also use it to spread false message as the case may be. The pen is very powerful, that it can cause destruction to the reputation and goodwill of other people; if put into bad use. The pen can also serve as a source of good reputation and goodwill, inspiration and aspiration of righteousness if put into something beneficial.
One should never underestimate the power of the pen; a person’s writeup make up part of such person’s actions, as it’s spread to others. Allah reminded us:
“Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it).” (Surah Qaf, 50:18). It is evidently cleared that any wording we made is written in our account of deeds (actions). As such, our wordings (in writing or speach) in this life might be a means of life changing events to others living on the surface of the earth. The life changing event may be of good fortune or otherwise, depending on the manner in which the pen is being used. Our wordings should always be the one that will add good values to people’s life, not the wordings that corrupt or degrade others.
The people of beneficial knowledge that acquired knowledge and understanding on certain matters and aspect in life will be able earn a great deal of good deeds from this Goodwill (knowledge) by sharing it with those that are willing and ready to learn from their pool of knowledge.
A knowledgeable person that share his/her acquired knowledge to benefit and inspire others will no doubt benefit from those act, anytime the knowledge is acted upon and people are able to derive wisdom from it in solving the matter of life. Doing this, it will go a long way in contributing to the fortune of the sharer of such knowledge, in Dunya (this life) and the Ākhirah (Hereafter).
So, we should endeavor to let the others read and benefit from our pen writeup in order for people to derive wisdom from the knowledge we have acquired; as it will be of no benefit to others if the knowledge is not shared to the needy (those willing and ready to learn).
Allah recommended that we read, and He also taught mankind by the pen. This we find in Qur’ān 96, Surah Al-Alaq:
اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ
“Read – for thy Sustainer (Allah) is the Most Bountiful One
الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ
Who has taught [man] the use of the pen”
You too can teach by the pen. Start writing beneficial post and articles now. Rather than wasting time in writing sheer non-beneficial posts to seek attention. Make the wordings (in writing) that will benefit you, not the one that will serve as a back fire to you on the day of Resurrection (Judgement).
الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
“Our Lord! we have indeed believed: forgive us, then, our sins, and save us from the agony of the Fire;” (Surah Aal-e-Imran, 3:16)
