It’s truly inevitable to be a lone individual. There’s need to be in some set of peoples’ companionship. Hence we found ourselves as members of one group or the other, sharing common identity. This is a representation of a social group, where we relate to one another what bother us and also seek for advice when the needs arise. This relationship defines human habit and the deeds of human are based on it.

“Show me your friend and I will tell you whom you are”, they say. One has to be careful in choosing those he moves or share character with. The behavioral trait in the friendship will irresistibly reflect individual’s psyche. Positive group with positive interaction yields refined and excellent attitude. Conversely, negative friendships with Undesirable interaction tends to produce detestable and vicious character.

In the present society, some Muslims tends to balance the ‘moments’ of Islam with sociality by equating it which is practical impossible. They want to be regarded as Muslims and at the same time someone who is socially inclined. Apparently, the actions that portrayed the two different status (Muslim and social inclined individual) are contradictory in all aspects, hence making the equation to be impossibly balanced.

Of what Islam is a Muslim who prays five times daily with additional nawafil, fasting, giving alms, with the hope of gaining rewards while among his fellow muslims but involve in all sort of nonentities prohibited by Islam, like gambling, taking Alcohol, listening to musics, etc, when amongst non-muslims or dormant Muslims.

Many wear Hijjab or Even Khimar when attending Islamic programs but shamefully wrapped their head with headrobe when attending social events. This is also as a result of inferiority and that battles the ummah and render the ummah in a state of emasculation of faith, hence castrating the enzymes of our Muslims brethren faith.

Many want to be socially acceptable and equal. But most sociality of nowadays are more of unbeneficial discussion which go against the injunctions of Islam. Hence the unbalanced in conformity, as one is more worldly and idle talks while another is more of eternal reminder to mankind on earth.

One thing the ummah has to fight before overcoming this problem is inferiority complex. This has been a terrible disease battling with personality of Ummuah. Islam is destined to prevail over all religions whether the unbelievers like it or not.

Who are we serving? Creator or creature? No equation can balance the status of sociality and being a Muslim. Why then should we equate the unequalable equation? One who try to equate the two vices will only find himself losing pristine Islam, because the hidden force behind the non-beneficial group will make such person modify some aspects of Islam to suit their social life in order to equate the unequalable vices, not knowing that Shaytan is at his deceitful work.

In light to this, the companions that you keeps is very essential to be a commendable one. The friends you keep should be those who are ready to correct you when any of your act is in deviation from the injunctions of the Almighty. However, there might be some situations where one will be the warner or admonisher to one’s friendship. This take place when you’re knowledgeable than your friends or companions. A Muslim should be a good diode to remove the impurities in the Deen of their friends and also a resistor to oppose the introduction of the religiously harmful social vices.

Social group can be very beneficial to the knowledge enthusiast, that is, if such person is among the scholars, intelligentsias, knowledge enthusiast alike and those with sound understanding of the deen. Being with righteous and pious companions does not only repel one from sin and crime but also get one’s psyche to be in harmony with ultimate righteousness, and this is the best form of social group one should be involved in.

“And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful.” [Surah Aal-e-Imran 3:104]
