In the Bible, God was called âLordâ (Greek kurios) and Jesus was also called
âlord.â Is this evidence for divinity of Jesus? Apparently not, for a lot of other people
were also called âlordâ in the Bible. However, once again, selective capitalization where
it suited the doctrinal purpose of the translators distorts the reality. âLordâ is a biblical
title of respect, as evidenced by numerous stories throughout the Bible (ex. Matthew
18:23Â34 and Luke 19:11Â21). The title âLordâ does not in itself imply divinity, and we
see this when Sarah called Abraham âLordâ (1 Peter 3:6). Nonetheless, Christians present
John 20:28 as evidence, in which Thomas is quoted as having identified Jesus as âMy
Lord and my God!â One problem. 1 Corinthians 8:6 reads, âYet for us there is only one
God, the Father âŠÂ and one Lord Jesus ChristâŠ.â âLordâ and âGodâ are separate and
distinct in one verse, but one and the same in the other. Exodus 4:16 compounds this confusion, for the Greek literally translates to Moses being Elohim (God) to Aaron.
Substitution of the word âasâ to distort the translation to âas Godâ has no manuscript
authority, but does serve to throw readers off the unmistakable scent of an overripe
theology gone bad. In a book where pagan gods (e.g., Ex. 12:12͟ 18:11͟ 20:3), judges
(Psalms 82:1&6), angels (Psalm 8:5), and prophets (Exodus 4:16) are identified with the
same Elohim as The One True God, who can trust a doctrine based on human
interpretations of ancient colloquialisms?
Exhibit #8 â Worship
People âworshippedâ Jesus, and he didnât object. Well, thatâs not quite true, is it?
What the biblical manuscripts record is that people proskuneoâed Jesus, and he didnât
object. Proskuneo is selectively translated in some bibles as âworshipâ or âworshipped,â
but that doesnât hint at the full range of meanings:
proskuneo, prosÂkooÂnehâÂoÍŸ from G4314 and a prob. der. of
G2965 (mean. to kiss, like a dog licking his masterâs hand)ÍŸÂ to fawn or
crouch to, i.e. (lit. or fig.) prostrate oneself in homage (do reverence to,
adore):âworship. 156
Itâs a fair assumption that few conceive the faithful to have kissed, much less
licked, Jesusâ hand. So assuming that some of the faithful crouched or prostrated
themselves to Jesus, we have to wonder what such a gesture would have signified.
Matthew 18:26 records the story of a slave who proskuneoâed his master, begging
for forgiveness of his debts. Mark 15:16Â20 records the humiliation of Jesus prior to the
alleged crucifixion as follows:
Then the soldiers led him away into the hall called Praetorium, and
they called together the whole garrison. And they clothed him with purple͟
and they twisted a crown of thorns, put it on his head, and began to salute
him, âHail, King of the Jews!â Then they struck him on the head with a
reed and spat on him͟ and bowing the knee, they worshiped
[proskuneoâed] him. And when they had mocked him, they took the purple
off him, put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.
Acts 10:25 records this: âAs Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell
down at his feet and worshiped [proskuneoâed] him.â Old Testament references include 1
Samuel 25:23, in which Abigail âfell on her face before David, and bowed down to the
ground.â 2 Kings 4:37 speaks of a Shunammite woman who, after God revived her child
through Elishaâs prayer, âfell at his [Elishaâs] feet, and bowed to the ground âŠâ Genesis
50:18 and 2 Samuel 19:18 weigh into the equation as well.
Taken in total, proskuneo can only imply divinity if Peter, David and Elisha,
among others, are included. Otherwise, selective translation must be assumed, for when
the Roman soldiers proskuneoâed to Jesus, they didnât worship him, as the Bible
translates. Rather, they mocked him with the salute offered to the kings and leaders of their time. Likewise, when others proskuneoâed to Peter, David, Elisha, the slaveÂmaster,
et al. they showed their respect according to custom. So, too, with Jesus.
This subject can be summed up with the question, âWhen people proskuneoâed to
Jesus, did they revere him as God?â If so, why didnât they pray to him? It is worth noting
that the Bible never records anyone having prayed to Jesus, and the rights due to God
were directed to Him alone. By both Jesus and his followers. Luke 4:8 records Jesus
saying, âYou shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.â
What jumps out at us from this verse is not only that Jesus directed worship to
God, but serviceâor in Greek, latreuo, which is defined, âto minister (to God), i.e.,
render religious homage:âserve, do the service, worship (Âper).â157 Unlike the
aforementioned proskuneo, latreuo means to render religious homage. And significantly,
out of twentyÂtwo uses in the New Testament, nowhere is latreuo applied to Jesus. So
while some people may have crouched or prostrated to Jesus in accordance with the
custom of their day, they didnât latreuo, or render religious homage, to him. They
reserved that honor for God alone. And for that matter, so did Jesus himself.
Nothing but Paradise should be asked for by Allahâs Face
Jabir ((May Allah be pleased with him)) narrated that Allahâs Messenger (May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said: âNothing except Paradise should be asked for by Allahâs Face.â (Abu Dawud)
Â
Important issues of the Chapter
I) Forbiddance of asking by Allahâs Face for other things than the utmost aim (that is Paradise).
2) Affirmation of Allahâs Attribute of having the Face.

âThere is no doubt that Abdulsalam Firdaos Amosa has been victimized, humiliated and traumatised by the Nigerian Law School, the Body of Benchers and the Council for Legal Education on account of her faith,â
âShe has been denied of rightfully joining her professional colleagues just because of her religion. She has been exposed to ridicule and opprobrium by standing for her religious rights. It begs the question that she is not the only Muslim lady among those concerned as no one will stand for her when she appears before her Creator to defend the correctness and otherwise of her actions. We reiterate that she has not violated any law.
âThe NSCIA demands that the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Justice, call the Council for Legal Education and the Nigerian Law School to order so that they will not stoke religious crisis in the country.
âOur Council patiently waits for what the Ministry will do as it puts other options on the table including litigation and nation-wide protests.
âThose who think they can ride roughshod on the rights of Muslims just because their co-Christian colonialists did it successfully will have to wake up and realise that Muslims are equal stakeholders in this country.â

THE GOD ORDAINED MODE OF WORSHIP
By Bashir Habeeb A.
I write spasmodically to weave words in boon of unveiling some hidden scriptural verses from the Bibles. The Christians completely forsake the biblical chosen mode of worship.
Mode of worship is by bowing and putting ones face on the ground and that is why Satan tempted Jesus Christ to bow and worship him by falling on the ground in the book of St Matthew 4:8-10.
If dancing, jumping, twisting, shaking, singing and tapping of ones feet is God chosen mode of worship, Satan could have commanded Jesus to sing and dance, but fortunately, it is not. We read in the book of St Mathew..
GOD CHOSEN MODE OF WORSHIP IN THE BIBLE
Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Matthew:4:8-10
There are several biblical verses that confirmed bowing and falling on the ground as the God ordained mode of worship, we read in the same book of St Mathew, where just prayed and worshipped God at the time of crucifixion, and fortunately he was successfully crucificted. We read
âAnd he (Jesus) went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed , saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.â â
Matthew 26:39
The disciples of Jesus too worshipped God by bowing and falling on their faces, they never worshipped Jesus and so, they did not deify him, they were submissive and subservient to Allaah and not to Jesus.
âAnd when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.â
Matthew 17:6
Allaah said concerning the disciples of Jesus Christ in the Qurâan, when they said.
Our Lord, we have believed in what You revealed and have followed the messenger Jesus, so register us among the witnesses [to truth].â
Quran 3:53 âAal-e-Imranâ
The Bible declared in the book of Hebrew 9:1 referring to the Old testament, the Bible said, the first covenant have ordinances of divine service, we read
Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.
Hebrews:9:1
We read in the Old testament, Abraham (the father of faith) bow and worshipped God.
âAnd Abram fell on his face : and God talked with him, saying,â
Genesis 17:3
âThen Abraham fell upon his face , and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?â
Genesis 17:17
Moses and Aaron went forth to the door of the tabernacle and fall on their faces and worshipped God.
âAnd Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces : and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.
Numbers 20:6
âAnd Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped.
Exodus 34:8
âAnd the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron , saying, Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation?â
Numbers 16:20-22
And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with [their] faces to the ground.
Nehemiah 8:6
âAnd he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship , and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant?â
Joshua 5:14
âAnd it came to pass, while they were slaying them, and I was left, that I fell upon my face , and cried, and said, Ah Lord GOD! wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel in thy pouring out of thy fury upon Jerusalem?â â
Ezekiel 9:8
âAnd Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.â
2 Chronicles 20:18
âAnd it came to pass, when I prophesied, that Pelatiah the of Benaiah died. Then fell I down upon my face, and cried with a loud voice, and said, Ah Lord GOD ! wilt thou make a full end of the remnant of Israel?â
Ezekiel 11:13
GOD CHOSEN MODE OF WORSHIP IN THE QURâAN
O you who have believed, bow and prostrate and worship your Lord and do good â that you may succeed.
Quran 22:77
O Mary, be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer].â
Quran 3:43 Aal-e-Imran
And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience].
Qurâan 2:43 Al-Baqarah
And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion.
Quran 98:5
Our Christian brethren need to set their sight high in seeking the truth, just as what the Bible said in the book of St John
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John:8:32
A Christian who wants to succeed in knowing the truth should strike out on new paths, rather than travel the worn paths, He/She needs to put more nickels in the machine in other to hit the jackpot. learn and know or listen to those to who know.
BARR FIRDAUS AMASA: HEROINE OF THE YEAR
By
Sanni Kay. Yusuf
âAnd tell the believing women to lower their gaze and protect their private parts and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent and to draw their âhijabsâ all over their necks and blossomsâŠâ Q24 V31
âO Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their âjilbaabâ all over their bodies. That will be better, that they should be known (as respectable women)âŠâ Q33 V59.
Barr Firdaus is worth the accolade â Heroine of the Year â for standing tall against all odds to make happen what her predecessors tried to, but could not do â for not minding the callous refusal to be conferred what she had laboured for all these years.
Nothing else can best describe such an iconic, titanic rarity than the word, heroine.
May Firdaus be granted FIRDAUS. Aameeeen!
I shouldnât have been too engaged to spit a few words since Barr Firdausâ Call to Bar imbroglio broke out a couple of days ago and the social media rocked by ceaseless arguments, just as I shouldnât be too busy to peruse various epistles in defence of our brave-hearted hijab heroine â Firdaus Amasa. Itâs really fulfilling to know that muslims have woken up from their age-long slumber.
We should not be surprised that Nigerian christians were against Firdausâ heroic tendency. They have been like that and they may never change forever because itâs in them: always at the other end of Islamic values. Recall the recent case of sukuk. And of course, that of Islamic banking. Their umbrella body, CAN cried foul and wept blood as if they were under coercion to embrace Islam. Anything Islamic is a threat to them aside a few who are rational.
But it pains that some ill-baked, self-styled muslims could join the bandwagon to antagonise our legal luminary of the year. Going through the comments of such ill-faithed ideologists, I wondered if they ever knew what Islam was. Muslims are the architects of the avalanche of problems encountered in the practice of Islam.
What exactly has Firdaus done wrong? She was accused of wearing a âforbidden garmentâ to the venue of a Call to Bar ceremony in Abuja. What garment? HijabâŠ
When I went through the heroineâs image, I could not even see any hijab worn. All I sighted was a small black piece of cloth placed under a wig covering down the cheek area and tucked through the neck into an all-rapping black pullover. So I asked myself: âWhere is the hijab?â
Itâs obvious that the tormented heroine would ordinarily not wear her hijab in such a manner. She had actually considered the acclaimed fictitious rules of the game. She had compromised enough. What else did despisers of sanctity want? She must strip herself unclad to abide by some barbaric, unfounded extant rules, right?
Does it even make sense that the lady was allowed to be clad in her hijab all through her studentship which spanned almost a decade, only to be disallowed to wear same just for a few hours. What a shame of supposed upholders of fundamental human rights!
Wearing hijab is a way of life for any adherent muslimah. It is a spiritual exercise that is accompanied by a reward indescribable. It is not a garment to be worn intermittently or optionally. And the least of length is down the blossom, as aforementioned.
We prayerfully await judgement by the court as Sheikh Barr Abdur-Raheem Ahmad Sayi and other cerebral muslim legal laminaries bombard the evil doers with facts. May Allah see them through.
I was disappointed when I read an article written by âSomeone who witnessed it allâ. Sadly, the author titled it, âOn Firdaus, End of Discussionâ and I wonder how someone will write gibberish then call it End of Discussion.
Â
In the last article I wrote (Â https://knowislam.com.ng/firdaus-crucified-for-our-redemption-by-bashir-lucas-samson-lukman/ ), I shared a screenshot of my chat with Albert Afeso Akanbi. He went on to insult sister Firdaus same way the author of this article being refuted did. Years of debate with Christians should make me think that Christians cannot have a debate without insults and curses if not for the Christians with common sense.
Meanwhile, I need to correct a misconception. Muslims are not shifting the blame on Christians. Christians are not responsible for the #Istandwithfirdaus saga but why should they not feel the heat when they are at the forefront when it comes to criticizing and insulting sister Firdaus. Theretofore, we are not shifting blame, we are only given response to anyone that deserves it.
The author who claimed to have been part of the officials that screened aspirants to the Bar consider sister Firdaus to be an extremist. unfortunately, people like this do not understand the concept of tolerance and extremism just because they are bigots blinded by prejudice. Their definition of tolerance when it comes to Muslims is when a Muslim do away with fundamental tenets of the religion. Now, President Buhari is a scholar and an example of a good Muslim while sister Firdaus is an extremist. The same man they accuse of being an extremist and working towards the Islamization of Nigeria.
The author should know that the president is not equal to scholars of this religion. Also, when it comes to Islam, if hundreds decide to ignore what is required in the religion, it does not make it right. In our world today, more attention is being given to extremism and the negative impact it has on the religion. However, a careful study of the lives of liberals and the extremists should bring anyone to the conclusion that âThe liberals and extremists are brothers.â Distorting and negating fundamental teachings of the religion are required to be a liberal or extremist and anyone who studies the religion from the lives of a liberal and extremist misunderstands the religion.
Â
Islam is a religion that understands and teaches respect of our religious differences. It is against hypocritical friendship/relationship. The verse âLakum deenukum wa liya Deenâ does not mean not saying the truth about your religion in the presence of other religions. If someone cannot tolerate the truth from your religion, his level of tolerance should be questioned not yours. The essence of the verse is understanding and respecting our differences not tolerance, compromise that breeds nothing but hypocrisy. The evils of liberals and extremists are much. In summary, when the religion asks you to leave people of other faiths to their religion, a liberal goes to practice their religion with them while the extremists would decide to harm them in the name of He that sent them not.
To a liberal, the one who practices Islam as it should be practiced is seen as an extremist while the extremist sees him as a liberal. Someone who studies Islam from a liberal sees the Muslim as an intolerant extremist. He sees the liberal as a perfect example of a âgood Muslimâ thus misunderstanding the religion. The liberal goes to celebrate the death of Jesus with a Christian to the joy of the Christian. Such Christian might know or not that the Qurâan says Jesus was not crucified; what a friendship based on lies, falsehood and hypocrisy!!! One who studies Islam using the extremists as a standard also misunderstands the religion because to him, the extremist justifies his actions with the Qurâan while he sees the liberal as a âmoderate Muslimâ that does not follow the âextremeâ teachings of the Qurâan.
A Muslim does not raise an eyebrow when a Christian Evangelist takes to the street and start preaching Jesus is God, He is the son of God etc. A Christian sees no harm in sharing tracts to his/her Muslim neighbours telling them Jesus is their Lord and personal saviour and of course, thereâs no harm after all.
If a Muslim decides to preach to a Christian neighbour telling him/her that Jesus is a Slave of God and no one is worthy of worship except God, the Christian begins to see the Muslim as a devil, an enemy not receiving the Muslimâs teaching with the same attitude the Muslim received his/her even though the Christian once saw the Muslimâs daughter in Hijab and Ùۧ Ű„ÙÙ Ű„Ùۧ ۧÙÙÙ inscribed On the door still goes ahead to preach to the Muslim.
The Christian may begin to pray, âI bind all evil spirit in this vicinity with fireâ, âThunder fire devilâ, âEnemy must failâ etc
Worthy to note, the Christian and the Muslim preached what is in their book, the Muslim becomes peaceful only if the Christian gets to preach unchallenged or the Muslim keeps quiet as regards his own faith.
_____________________
A Christian Evangelist not minding the fact that there are people with different religious beliefs, state of health and mental stability on a commercial bus, he starts to preach even sometimes as far as the journey takes. He begins to say âAnyone who doesnât accept Jesus shall perishâ citing John 3:16 amidst other verses and this he does, with no harm.
If a Muslim gets on a commercial bus and seats near a Christian, and say âBismillah AR-rahmani Ar-raheemâ, the Christian may change seat or set a space between him and the Muslim.
________________________
To a Christian, A Muslim is peaceful only when he honours the invite to celebrate Christmas with them to mark the birth of the supposed son of God and also Easter to commemorate the death of Jesus though these negate the Lam yalid, Walam yulad and also Qurâan 4:157-159 in the Muslimâs Qurâan.
Once a Muslim refuses, saying it is not part of his faith, he is being hated on while a Muslim has no ill thoughts to a Christian who doesnât join in observing any of the Muslimsâ festival.
They laugh outwards, yet they are devil inwards. Seeing Paul of the Bible as a mentor, they can do like a goat to catch a goat to worship the Jesus of the church different from Jesus of the Bible and they employ all acts of maliciousness and deceptiveness being desperate so far more sheep are being brought to church which means an increase in Tithe.
Having Sundays and Saturdays to themselves, with no complains from the Muslims, they will cry out their eyes at an attempt to declare Friday a no working day in favour of the Muslims. Worthy to note that, they have this Sunday and Saturday due to the fact that they donât know when exactly should be their day of worship. Hence while some go to church on Sunday, the seventh day adventists go on Saturday, yet the Statement âgo to church on Sunday or Saturdayâ cannot be found in the Bible.
To a Christian, a Muslim girl wearing hijab to school is his/her headache though the mother of his/her supposed Lord and Personal saviour was not reported to have exposed her hair.
If a Muslim grows beard, it becomes a problem, though the prophets in the supposed âHOLY BIBLEâ were not reported to be clean shaven.
Their tolerance starts from where Muslims begin to tolerate them and stops when Muslims do what is theirs not affecting their religious beliefs or everyday life a bit.
You will only get to fully know what I mean by âour tolerance define their toleranceâ when Muslims decide to start celebrating,
World Jesus did not die day, World no son of God day like the Christians celebrate Christmas and easter, the former being Bidâaah and should not be attempted.
When announcing the day of Eid-el-kabir is tagged as holiday and gives a religious body(CAN) headache, we might begin to wonder if they are doing Godâs service or stomach and bank account service.
Special thanks to Christians who understand the meaning of humanity not bigots drunken with the opium of prejudice.
Â
FALLACY OF FALSE EQUIVALENCE
Â
Thanks to brother Yusuf Abila Ibrahim that made me remember this.
False equivalence is a logical fallacy in which two opposing arguments appear to be logically equivalent when in fact they are not. This fallacy is categorized as a fallacy of inconsistency.
A common way for this fallacy to be perpetuated is one shared trait between two subjects is assumed to show equivalence , especially in order of magnitude , when equivalence is not necessarily the logical result. [2] False equivalence is a common result when an anecdotal similarity is pointed out as equal, but the claim of equivalence doesnât bear because the similarity is based on oversimplification or ignorance of additional factors.
I accuse the author of committing this fallacy. Firstly, the author wrote, â The attire is clearly spelt out in our code of conduct book, hijab is obviously not part of itâ. Can the author show us where the code of conduct book forbids Hijab? Are pants and bra included in the code of conduct book?( using his explanation). Will they refuse to Call to Bar someone who wears or does not wear pants and bra? which part of the constitution forbids or states that it should or must be worn? If people do not buy rational explanations, maybe we can resort to their own thinking!
Â
He wrote again, â Law with its tradition is older than Christianity and Islam and should for no reason be made a slave to any of the twoâ. The question here is, âWhy then should the constitution be a slave to a code of conduct?â We are not asking the constitution to be a slave to Islam, we are only asking for the freedom of religion it claims to have given us. If your code of conduct cannot be a slave to a religion, why should your code of conduct enslave the constitution?
Â
The author wrote;
Â
âIn conclusion, if the lady should be donated the so much alarmed sympathy and condonation ,the following should also be considered in other to balance the equation:
Muslim lawyers should be allowed to wear hijabs.
Deeper life members shouldnât be made to wear NYSC trousers.
Lords chosen lawyers can wear their bullet proof vests to call to bar auditorium.
Celestial lawyers should be allowed to wear their white garments.
Traditional Idol worshipers like witch or native doctors should be allowed to appear in their red wrappers, feathers of birds, chocks and beads/cowries to law school and call to bar auditorium.
Since weâre all mad right?â
Â
This is the fallacy!!! How many of these people wear these attires to offices, banks, hospitals? These are more of ceremonial wears to them. They can wear whatever they want to wear, we will see the face of hypocrites. to counter Shariâah courts, we read that CAN is working on Ecclesiastical Court yet we have not heard anything about it. Celestial Church members can walk without shoes for long, who cares? Students that wore choir gowns, sutana and traditional wears to school in Osun State, are they still wearing it?
Â
We are not asking for what is preposterous rather we seek an end to laws that are obnoxious, irrational and illogical. According to the bible, Jesus knew they were selling and buying in the temple. I[why did he go to the temple when he knew he would see something displeasing? Why did Mary Slessor not go back to Scotland when she saw them killing twins in Calabar?
If Allah permits, pseudo-feminists and selective feminism would be addressed. We should also not forget sister Shariffah yunus whose niqob was yanked off.
All praise be to Allah who brought me back to life. It is indeed great to be reunited with my brother, Eneye Ahmad Jamiu Emma.
I was out with Eneye today and we did not regret my wanting to see how it is out there. On our way back, we boarded a bus. We have not covered 1km when a pastor started to preach.
The pastor started to talk about sins, it is not important to be a Christian or Muslim to gain eternal life. Funny enough, he said all we need is to accept Jesus Christ as our lord and personal saviour? And that makes us what? Hindus?
When he stopped, Eneye said he wants to ask a question. âPastor, where is it in your Bible that Jesus is our Lord and Personal saviour?â
The pastor said it is in the Bible and we asked him to give us the Bible verse. He declined and said, âPlease, I have spoken as the spirit directed meâ and I told Eneye, âMy brother, please, speak according to how the spirit directs you!â
Eneye went on to quote Isiaha 43:10-11 but the pastor said he will not open his Bible and whatever is in the Bible verse we quoted is irrelevant to the conversation.
Eneye continued, â You know there are Muslims on this bus and you donât want us to talk or ask questions after your preachingâ
The pastor felt embarrassed and said, âDriver, please, let me come downâ.
The Old Testament predicted the coming of Jesus. It also predicted the coming of
John the Baptist in the book of Malachi. More importantly, many Old and New
Testament references to a final prophet do not match the profile of either John the Baptist to the words of Jesus, is a person to conclude that Jesus had a preÂhuman existence?
According to Jeremiah 1:5, so did Jeremiah. According to the Islamic religion, so did all
mankind. Next, is a person to draw a parallel between the âI AMâ attributed to Jesus and
that attributed to God? Once again, the foundational text pokes fun at the translation.
Jesus is not recorded to have said âI AMâ in capital âmakes me look like Godâ letters.
Jesus is translated as having said âI AMâ in a âlooks like Godâs words in Exodus, think
theyâll buy it?â effort at textual synchronization. What Jesus is recorded to have said is
eimi in a humble, uncapitalized, unprepossessing and nonÂexclusive (152 times in the
New Testament) Greek word which doesnât justify capitals or comparison with the
supposed words of God in Exodus (which are not capitalized, either in the Hebrew hayah
or the Greek Septuagint ho ohn). By no means can the New Testament Greek eimi
attributed to Jesus be compared with the Old Testament Greek ho ohn attributed to God
in the Septuagint. By no means of honesty or accuracy, that is. Likewise, neither of these
phrases can honestly be capitalized âI AM,â for the 151 other instances of eimi are
translated to the uncapitalized, âI am.â Why is eimi capitalized once and not capitalized
151 times, if not due to doctrinal prejudice? To their own credit, most reputable bibles
avoid this textual gameÂplaying. The New International Version, the Revised Standard
Version, the New Revised Standard Version, the American Standard Version, and many
others do not capitalize the eimi of Jesus to âI AM.â
Exhibit #5 â The Right Hand Man
Mark 16:19 and Luke 22:69 report that Jesus was received into heaven, where he
sat at the right hand of God. Letâs begin by pointing out that Mark 16:9Â20 has been rejected from many bibles for being of doubtful scriptural authority. 154 Bart Ehrman puts
it more simply, stating, âBut thereâs one problem. Once again, this passage was not
originally in the Gospel of Mark. It was added by a later scribe.â
155
Barring the consideration that the entire passage may be illegitimate to begin
with, the argument that closeness to God makes one equal to, partners with, or part of
God breaches clear from the waters of reason. The Bible says Jesus sat with God which,
if Jesus were God, could only mean that God sat beside Himself, on his own right side. In
conflict with this bizarre thought is Isaiah 44:6, which reads with blinding clarity, âThus
says the Lord âŠÂ âI am the First and I am the LastÍŸÂ besides Me there is no God.ââ Isaiah
43:11 records, âI, even I, am the Lord, and besides Me there is no savior.â So whatâs the
argument again? That Jesus sat beside Himself, Theirselves, Godselves, whateverâbut
he sat beside God without sitting beside God because, âBesides Me there is no God,â and
âbesides me there is no saviorâ? A true dilemma arisesâeither Jesus sat beside God and
therefore is neither God nor savior, or he didnât sit beside God and the Bible is unreliable.
In the first case the theology fails, in the second case the Bible fails, and either way weâre
left confused, whereas the purpose of revelation is to clarify. In addition, the Bible says,
âAnd Enoch walked with God âŠâ (Genesis 5:24). So what does that make him?
Exhibit #6 â Forgiving Sins
Some attribute divinity to Jesus because they believe he forgave sins. Luke 5:20
reads, âSo when he saw their faith, he said to him, âMan, your sins are forgiven you.ââ
Luke 7:47Â48 states, âTherefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgivenâŠ.
And he said to her, âYour sins are forgiven.ââ The claim is that, by these words, Jesus
forgave sins. Others suggest he informed the individuals concerned that their sins were
forgiven, but by whom, he didnât say. Significantly, Jesus didnât say, âI forgive your
sins.â Were we to assume Jesus conveyed the forgiveness of the Creator, of which he was
informed through revelation, we fall into agreement with Jesus in John 12:49ââFor I
have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me gave me a command,
what I should say and what I should speak.â On the other hand, were we to assume Jesus
forgave sins on his own initiative, we contradict his statement, âI can of myself do
nothing âŠâ (John 5:30).
A deeper question is not whether Jesus had the power to forgive sins, but whether
that would make him equal to God. The Pharisees allegedly thought so, but Jesus
corrected them, as Luke 5:21 records: âAnd the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason,
saying, âWho is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?ââ
Again, the argument is that the Pharisees believed Jesus claimed to be God, so we should
believe as they did. However, itâs a peculiar argument. The Pharisees hated Jesus, defied
him and obstructed his mission, lied against him at his trial and plotted his capture,
humiliation, beating and murder. And yet, weâre supposed to trust their opinion? Letâs
remember, itâs the defiant Pharisees who teach, to this day, that Jesus Christ was a
bastard child and his mother was either a fornicator or a prostitute. And yet the Christian is supposed to accept their opinion? Jesus didnât. In the very next verse, Luke 5:22, he
rebuked the Pharisees with the words, âWhy are you reasoning in your hearts?ââthe
rough scriptural equivalent of calling them blithering idiots, for they allowed their
emotions to override rational judgment.
And again, what better place for Jesus to have asserted his divinity if, that is, he
were in fact divine? What better place for him to have stood tall with the confidence of
divine omnipotence and said, âThatâs right, who can forgive sins but God alone? Finally,
youâve figured it out. Now, let me explain âŠâ
But he didnât, and we have to assume he had good reason not to, for in fact he
stated the exact opposite.
