Criticising the bible to preach Islam is petty and unintelligent!!! One of the most common and prevalent ways of Da’wah today is critiquing the bible to preach the message of Islam, I find this form of Dawah as petty, unintelligent, divisive and pettifogging!
I’ve studied the life and time of our noble prophet Muhammad, there was never a time he made negative reference to the bible to pass his message of wahdaaniyah(oneness of Allah). I admired the intellect and
acumen of Ahmed Hoosein Deedat who was one of the pioneers of this form of Dawah, but I never admired his work because my gut feelings are he misrepresented Islam.
His form of Dawah did more harm than good, and it has now become the order of the day amongst Muslims. It’s bad enough for Muslims in the world today in terms of image, why do we want to be the proponents of hatred and division again. As a Muslim, I know how I feel when I see articles, books or websites demonising Islam and Prophet
Muhammad, so I kinda know how Christians feel when we criticise the bible.
What happened to the beautiful and
intelligent lectures by Sheikh Kamaldeen Al-Adabby and Sheikh Adam Al-Ilory; they told us the beautiful stories in the Quran, they gave us a reason to be Muslims and never ‘centred’ their Dawah on the bible or Christianity just like Prophet Muhammed never did, instead they sold the beautiful message of Al-Islam to the world!
Allah is Allah, Allah is not a Muslim or a Christian. He was the God during the time of Musa, Ibrahim, Jesus,
Muhammad and He will continue to be the only One till the day of judgement. I’m proud of my religion without looking down on yours! I ask our scholars, have you finished
teaching all the verses in the Quran before you start with bible? How many Muslims understand the Quran and all its teachings, yet we are busy criticising the bible!
Coca Cola advertises coke without mentioning Mirinda, sell your product without criticising another. Sell the message of he beautiful and ever relevant Quran without criticising the
bible of the past! Look forward with the Quran and stop distracting yourself with the books of the past!
RESPONSE TO MUNTAQOH ABIMBADE AND OTHER CRITICS OF COMPARATORS.
I came across an article written by Abimbade Muntaqoh where he wrote against Muslims who employ using the Bible in conversing with Christians. He reduced this technique to not being intelligent and tagging Muslims who do this as agents of division not also forgetting to add that such Muslims do more harm than good to Islam. Before going deep into this article, let me firstly point out something he made mention of. He claimed to have studied the life of the prophet and never seen him make negative
remarks about the Bible before passing his message. I find this very surprising because with the arrogance he displayed in his article, I do not expect him to think or believe there were Bibles in the days of prophet Muhammad (SAW) .
If he thinks there were Bibles, which of the Bibles was he referring to?
However we cannot not play blind to the fact that the Christians had their scriptures in the days of the prophet. Let us now see how friendly was the message of the prophet to the scriptures of the Christians and their beliefs. In Qur’an 5:116 we read, “And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, “O Jesus, Son of
Mary, did you say to the people, ‘Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah ?'” He will say, “Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen”
Is this Christians friendly?
In Qur’an 112:3,Allah says
“Lam yalid wa lam yoolAD “which is to mean that God begets not nor was He begotten which directly contradicts their scriptures that Jesus is the son of God. Still Christians friendly?
We read again in Qur’an 1:4 which says Allah is the King of the day of recompense which contradicts the belief of the Christians that Jesus shall judge us.
Still Christians friendly? We are not done. We read again In Qur’an 112:1 which says,
“Qul huwal laahu ahAD” which means Say, “He(Allah) is one” which contradicts the trinitarian teachings of the Christians.
Let us look at another verse,
“The Messiah (Jesus, son of Mary) was no more than a Messenger, many were the Messengers that passed away before him. His mother (Mary) was a Siddeeqah (she believed in the words of Allaah and his Books). They both used to eat food [as other human beings do while Allaah does not eat]. Look at how We make the signs clear to them, yet look at how they are deluded from the Truth. (5:75) ” This refutes the Christians teaching that Jesus is God. And I wonder if these verses are praising or negating the Christians teaching and their books.
We read also in Qur’an 2:79,
“Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, and then say:”This is from Allah,” to traffic with it for miserable price!- Woe to them for what their hands do write, and for the gain they make thereby” We should ask this brother and his likes If the Christians Scripture fall in this category or not. I can go on giving several other verses. With the verses provided above, would Muntaqoh Abimbade and his cohorts call the prophet or Allah (SWT) agents of confusion? Astagafirrlah. We really wonder what type of unity they are promoting.
WHY THE BIBLE?
In Qur’an 2:111,Allah says,
“And they say, “None will enter Paradise except one who is a Jew or a Christian.” That is [merely] their wishful thinking, Say, “Produce your proof, if you should be truthful.” Where are they going to bring their proofs from if not their scriptures? The Qur’an records Jesus (pbuh) saying, ” I said not to them except what You commanded me – to worship Allah , MY LORD and YOUR LORD. And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them; but when You took me up, You were the Observer over them, and You are, over all things, Witness. Despite the manipulations in the Bible, we find a similar statement in the Bible, “Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to MY GOD and YOUR GOD .’ In Qur’an 16:36,Allah says,
“And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): “Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) all false deities” Then of them were some whom Allah guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth).” Do you not think the point can be driven home better and more convincing to a Christian if he sees verses like Deuteronomy 6:4 where Prophet Musa (Moses) said, “Hear O Israel, the Lord our God is one ” Likewise Jesus in Mark 12:29 saying,” Hear O Israel, the Lord our God is one ” Allah says, “And when Jesus the Son of Mary said, O children of Israel, verily I am the Apostle of God sent unto you, confirming the law which was delivered before me, and bringing good tidings of an Apostle who shall come after me, and whose name shall be Ahmed. And when he produced unto them evident miracles, they said, this is manifest sorcery. (The Noble Quran, 61:6)”. In this verse Prophet Isaa (Jesus) was recorded to have come to confirm the previous laws, Let’s see what the Bible says, Jesus said in Matthew 5:17, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them”. Looks alike or not? Looks like comparative? The Qur’an goes further in saying Jesus promised the coming of Ahmed (SAW).
As much as the Bible has been corrupted, the traits of truth are still there. Jesus did said an advocate, a
comforter would come after him. The same prophet got unnamed in John 1:19-21. RUBBISHING THE BIBLE?? It is pathetic if people are arrogant in their ignorance. As much as comparators tend to see the similarities in both the Qur’an and Bible, no one takes the Bible for guidance and comparators do not hesitate to fish out what is wrong with the Bible as ALLAH HAD DONE.
Here is an example, we read in the Bible, “Exodus 31:17 It is a sign between me and the children of
Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he RESTED, and was REFRESHED.
Let’s see what Allah says in Qur’an 50:38, “And We did certainly create the heavens and earth and what is between them in six days, and there touched Us NO WEARINESS” In Qur’an 4:82,Allah says,
“Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’an? If it had been from [any] other than Allah , they would have found within it much contradiction” Since the Christians claim the Bible is God’s word Allah says the if the Qur’an is not from Him, there would have been in it much contradiction. The contradiction we find in the Bibles today. If we highlight these contradictions to prove the Bible is not from God, we wonder if people like Muntaqoh will count it as bad deeds for us.
It is a misconception that Comparators are intolerant to people of other faith and also disrespectful. Many people need to be taught what is tolerance, peace and respect as these do not necessarily mean keeping silent. Those who don’t give respect literally deserve none. Imagine a Christian walking up to a Muslim and tells him merry Christmas in commemoration of the acclaimed birth of Jesus, the son of God. Isn’t this disrespectful to a Muslim and a mockery of Lam yalid wa lam yoolAD?..
A Christian walks up to a Muslim and wishes him merry Easter in commemoration of the supposed death of Jesus. People like Muntaqoh and Co. do not see this as a disrespect and mockery of Allah’s words in Qur’an 4:157-159 which says Jesus died not. But it is only when a Muslim begins to say Jesus didn’t die and isn’t a son of God they count as disrespect. Maybe we need to teach this people how to respect their own faith and fellow Muslims without forgetting to tell them respect is reciprocal.
UNITED IN HYPOCRISY OR DIVERSITY?
People like Muntaqoh see themselves as peaceful people who love people of other faith. This is also the same on the side of the unbelievers as they think those who keep quiet without having religious dialogues with Muslims are the peaceful ones. This is ironic!. What love can be greater than loving someone for Allah’s sake and inviting them to Islam to gain paradise. Allah (SWT) asked us in the Qur’an to invite people to His path. Imagine a Muslim who has this verse in his Qur’an, “Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures” (Surah Bayyinat verse 6) along with verses like Qur’an 3:19,85 and 102 asking no one to seek no religion other than Islam as it would not be accepted from them.
This Muslim in the name of love for a Christian keeps quiet without inviting this Christian to the path of felicity, warning him not of the danger ahead. The Christian on the other hand believes if this Muslim dies as a Muslim, hell is his abode. In the name of love, the Christian too keeps quiet and they move on.
This is what I call UNITED IN HYPOCRISY.
When I tell the Christian what my book says about him and he tells me what his says about me, if we are able to go along together after making things clear to ourselves, then we are UNITED IN DIVERSITY. So, think well, keeping silent does not mean you love that person. On a last note, no one stops you from listening to Sheikh Al- adabby or Sheikh Al-ilory or any other sheikhs as we listen to them ourselves, but remember after years of listening and your sons and daughters go outside and they begin to lure them into practising Christianity, it is not Yasin they have been listening to from childhood they may need to hear. They need to find out something is wrong with their newly found faith and Allah knows best.
