Assalam alaekum everyone.

Recently, there has been a broadcast circulating across social media that birds and planes don’t fly across the Kaaba and there are no airports in Mecca. The main claim the broadcast posseses is that the Kaaba is the center of the earth. It lies in the middle of the earth without any deviation or deformation. And because it is the center of gravity, it naturally attracts the magnetic charges in this place.

My dear brothers and sisters, this broadcast is just a tale of lies.

Pilgrims arrive from all parts of the globe to visit the Grand Mosque. The most precious human treasures are in Makkah and its surroundings since the times of the Prophet Abraham (pbuh). The Saudi government is spending billions of riyals to upgrade infrastructure facilities in the holy city.

Everyone knows that Makkah, despite its mountainous terrain, is surrounded by plains in all directions but one. The distance between the Hijaz Mountains and the Red Sea is more than 60 kilometers, with Makkah located in the middle. Thus, the topography of the area would not prevent building an airport in the city. Why, then, do the authorities dismiss the idea?

The Jeddah airport is nearly 100 kilometers away from the center of Makkah. In normal traffic, passengers coming from Makkah need one and a half hours to reach the airport. This is in addition to the cost of renting a car, which doubles during peak seasons.
During the January floods, travelers from Jeddah could not reach Makkah and vice versa as was the case during November 2009 floods.

Some parts of the highway that connects Jeddah airport with Makkah were submerged in floodwaters. All these facts make the building of an airport in Makkah crucial.

According to Eman El-Shenawi, a writer at Al Arabiya (Saudi Arabia) in an article published on Thursday Jun 23, 2011, he writes thus:

Plans for an airport in Saudi Arabia’s Muslim pilgrimage city, Mecca, have been crushed as the General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA) rejected proposals for the project this week.

The proposed airport was rejected because of the distance that airports are required to be from the city center.

Mecca has become one of the most cosmopolitan and diverse cities in the Muslim world, with more than 13 million Muslims visiting Mecca annually mostly for the Hajj pilgrimage.

Other difficulties towards having an airport in the city were the mountainous geography of the area and the close proximity of Mecca to Jeddah, the major urban center of western Saudi Arabia on the coast of the Red Sea.

Prince Khaled Al Faisal, Governor of the Makkah province, said that plans to build an airport were scrapped and the current travel bases are sufficient enough.

“King Abdulaziz International Airport and Jeddah Islamic Port serve Mecca by air and sea. So there is no need for a new airport in Mecca,” Prince Faisal said in a statement to the media.

It is now clear why there are no Airports in Mecca which has no bearing with gravity or any cosmo stuff. However the issue of Planes flying over the Kaaba is simple.

Planes can’t fly over mecca, because it’s restricted airspace and have no fly zone.

Lastly, it is funny how the broadcast says Birds don’t fly across the Kaaba when indeed there are numerous pictures on the internet showing Birds on the Kaaba itself. However, some skeptics could say the birds landed on the Kaaba but never flew across it. Please watch this short video.

So please let us stop sharing this broadcast as it is mere exaggeration and a tale of lies.

May Allah guide us all.
