BIRTHDAY AND DEATHDAY; A DEDICATION IN REMEMBRANCE!

Allah the Most High informed us in the Qur’an on the definition of this present life, and also reminded us on the real abode for the righteous and the pious. This we find in; Surah Al-Ankaboot, Verse 64:
وَمَا هَٰذِهِ الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا إِلَّا لَهْوٌ وَلَعِبٌ وَإِنَّ الدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ لَهِيَ الْحَيَوَانُ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ
And this life of the world is only amusement and play! Verily, the home of the Hereafter, that is the life indeed (i.e. the eternal life that will never end).

We are in an era where some people squander their time and resources in the name of the celebration of birthday, and just to have fun in the remembrance of the day they were born. Many forget that the day of birth is a mark of the start of life on this earth. Hence, the clock has already started ticking, and it will continue to count until death will surely make it a stop one day. Likewise as birthday celebration is common, the same notion also goes to its opposite i.e deathday. Some people also indulge in the celebration of the end of life (death), but most of them are unaware that the death philosophy is only the end of life on this earth, and not the end of stress and struggle as most people think. Death is actually an event that lead to the start of another new phase (Barzakh) of life.
So, here is a poetic wordings to serve as an awaken spirit for our soul, and to keep our heart in constantly remembering the purpose of birthday and deathday, and the notion of birth and death in life.

Part 1: Remembrance of Birth:

Surprisingly, I opened my eyes and found myself in this World;
I wondered in cry, and screamed that what kind of life is this One;
As I became unaware of the task ahead of me, the time I was Born;
Thus a Pretty Queen laboured and gave birth to her Precious Son (Child);
As I grow older and developed in Psyche and strength of Reasoning;
I begin to realise my stand and started giving life some sort of Meaning;
That I need to stay focus and stand firm on the path that is Straight;
So as not to fall into the trick of Shaytan and become one of his Prey;
Following the pristine Islam and to be mindful of his deceit, for he is a Traitor;
As I’m aware that he strive to dissuade and lead mankind to disobey their Creator;
Holding fast to the code of conduct of life (Qur’an and Sunnah) as prescribed by our Creator;
Taking the prophet as a role model and his Sunnah as our way and life Standard;
As he was described in the Qur’an as the one with High Character Standard;
This path of life should be our choice, as it’s our fitrah from the time of Birth;
Using the pristine source as a guide, before a day we are destined to face the Death.

Part 2: Remembrance of Death:

When the Prophet (ﷺ) was asked about the wisest person, he replied: “The one who mentions and contemplates death the most, and the one who prepares for his death the most; these are the wise ones; they gain the glory of this life and the honor of the Hereafter.” [At-Tabaraani, Al-Munthiri]

Death, a destined certainty for all the creations of Allah in the Heaven and the Earth;
Whether we like it or not everyone’s time will surely pass and every soul shall taste Death;
Realising this life is a journey that we all have to travel to reach the Hereafter the real Home;
Playing the role of a passerby and moving through the ups and down of this earth in Glow;
Taking into consideration all circumstances of disbelieve that can cause one to Tremble;
Being aware not to live the life that is unplanned and avoiding living a life of Gamble;
Every commandment of Allah is a duty upon the Muslims to know and Concur;
Because the punishment for not doing so is certain of which there is no form of accord;
Making the reward of the good doers as the goal, as missing it is a thing one cannot Afford;
Taking heed of all the traps and instruments of Shaytan, for he is under the curse of Allah;
For he had promised until resurrection, to keep distracting and misleading mankind from Allah;
That is why the Glorious Qur’an keep warning us about his tricks, so that we can Remember;
Being alert on his whisper and false desire, and to stand firm so as not to relax and fall into Slumber;
Our Lord! Strengthen our believe and increase our righteousness and make our departure on earth a Goodly End;
Oh the All-Forgiving and the Most Merciful! Forgive our wrongs, purify our deeds and make us Muhsinun till the Very End.
Amin!

Thus, Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), encouraged us to always remember and mention death saying: “Profusely mention the destroyer of pleasures (i.e., death).” [At-Tirmithi]
