ANNALS OF HIJABIS on knowislam.com.ng Episode 7

… The problem started during the second week I resumed school. I lived in the school hostel and in my  block, we were just two Muslims, the rest were Christians. Every morning, their worship and praise songs won’t let us rest. I tried to caution them, but no one listened. So, I decided to ignore them. As time went on, they tried to initiate us but Alhamdulillah, we never fell for their tricks. They enticed us with gifts and all sorts of things but Alhamdulillah, we were satisfied with what we had.

One day, one of them called me and asked, “Sister, why do you always cover?” I told her that I cover because it’s compulsory for me and it’s part of my dressing as a Muslim. She laughed and said I covered my beauty as endowed as I was, because of that (being part of my dressing). I also laughed and told her “With my hijab, I’m the most beautiful”. She smirked and said it’s in my body; that popular ‘ó wà lára ẹ’

Subhanallah! I needed to live my life the way Allah wants it and not anybody’s order amidst Hostel challenges and the worse, the lecture room challenges. All this while, My hijab was of waist length.

Some guys were desperate, they were always there to provoke. Fellow Muslim sisters were also part of the problem. Owing to the fact that not all of us liked the intermingling, they  discriminated and didn’t want to move with us. They called us Tabligh.

I decided to adopt the Jilbab as it would protect me from all sorts of harassment and embarrassment. At first, I was mocked and laughed at, even by my so called Muslim sisters but, I didn’t even pay attention to them.

I am covering because it’s my pride.
My Hijab, my Pride!
My Hijab, my Beauty!
