THE MEAT EMBASSY & THE HALAL LABEL by SHEHU, Abdus-Salam Aladodo
THE MEAT EMBASSY & THE HALAL LABEL
About an hour ago, our attention was drawn to a picture which from the look of it, was taken from a grocery store. The picture contains one of the products of B.W. Foods, a Nigeria Meat embassy which supplies goat meat, top side beef, snail, pork, fillet steak, cow legs, shaki, Kidney, liver, etcetra to interested buyers. The product which happens to be one of B.W. Foods’ pork leg had the ‘’Halal’’ label printed on it. This we think we should bring to the notice of the Meat Embassy team.
The word “Halal حلال“ is an Arabic term which means “Permissible“. As such, from the Islamic perspective, anything which is termed to be halal can be made use of or put into action. With Islam being a religion which preaches moderation in standard of living however, there are some things which were not made Halal for Muslims to either consume or put into use. By extension, this extends to the food we eat and fortunately for Muslims, Pork happens to be under that category. The Qur’an admonish thus:
Allah has forbidden for you only the Maytatah (dead animals), and blood, and the FLESH OF SWINE, and that which is slaughtered as a scrifice for others than Allah (or has been slaughtered for idols, etc., on which Allah’s Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering)…
-Sura Al-Baqarah, Ayah 173
Going by the Qur’anic verse above, it is crystal clear that Pork is forbidden. But with B.W. Foods’ “HALAL“ label on their Pork leg products, this stand to sway the unconscious Muslims, making them go against their convictions. We hereby implore the embassy to please look into this as it is of utmost important to those of us who happen to be their Muslim customers and or consumers.
We do hope this complaint will be looked into and the HALAL label will not find its way into B.W. Foods’ Pork products again.
