Few weeks ago, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) after our 21days Orientation at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Amada, Gombe State, Nigeria served all Corp members with their posting letters on the day of departure, and I got posted to a Private Secondary School therein.

I reported to my place of primary assignment the following day which was on a Tuesday, I got accepted by my employer and I started work the following day (Wednesday) because I had no intention to travel back home.

The kids in this school are promising kids, brilliant bunch of small lives, like we have them all around us. Everyday, the routine of the Students (as stipulated by the school) is to read the Qur’an in their various classes from 07:30am-08:00am and end it with the Morning Adhkar. Except on Mondays and Fridays when assembly will deny them of recitation but not of Adzkar.

From JSS1-SS2, these kids recite the Qur’an in such a beautiful way and they have really memorised a great deal. Whenever they start recitation, I am always clouded with happiness that the Ummah has hope, and the hope rests on the shoulders of the beautiful kids here; girls and boys alike. In the middle of recitation, I do feel sad that I never got the chance to start as early as they did. I mean, just imagine a boy of about 9/10 having memorised the first 6-7 Chapters of the Qur’an. What can be much more beautiful than that? To know that you wouldn’t have to worry about your child reading the sacred book or making supplications all by himself. They are just so nice and wonderful. May Allah grant us the best of offsprings.

The most astounding and appealing part of it all is that: whenever a teacher is in their class, be it myself or any of the teachers, they divide their minds or maybe they have this way of doing it, I don’t know, by Allah. You’ll see some of them hiding the Qur’an, trying to do revisions while still listening to the class as it goes on. Even when writing on the board for them, some will be writing with the pen in one hand and the Qur’an in another. By Allah it’s a beautiful sight to behold such great deal of consistency and persistency which will earn them nothing but everlasting success in this world and the Ākhirah. May Allah grant them steadfastness.

After all the rigorous efforts, when the school closes at 1:10pm, they’ll go for Dhur Solat and return back to class reciting the Qur’an, memorizing till 04:00pm.
This same routine is what some of them still do after Maghrib, cos there’s a Madrasa where the Qur’an is being taught here at night.

By Allah, their life cycle revolves around nothing but the Qur’an. And they are all young kids, they’ve never seen the world for what it is. I don’t even think some of them have even left that community since birth.
What will become of them once they’re done with school? Only Allah knows. But one thing I am sure of is that Allah will always grant steadfastness to His lovers, the people of the Qur’an. These people are indeed His lovers.

Similar examples of little, bright, and promising Muslim kids and youths can be see all around us as well, the one reading this might have their own say too. Even on our various Social media platforms, we see young Muslims defying the known norms of social insanity and contributing a great deal through their stories, articles, poems and what have you. If we happen to meet or know someone like that, let’s encourage them, guide them whenever they err and pray for them a great deal, for they are the future of this great Ummah.

So, my beloved brothers and Sisters, the future of our Ummah is safe and fine, but we should lookout for those whose mission is to tarnish our image. I enjoin us to all try our possible best in safeguarding the affairs of the Islamic Ummah with whatever knowledge we’ve been endowed with, even though Islam will remain protected by Allah, but we need to maintain our integrity as Muslims and be a mirror for others in our various fields. Remember the sacred word of Allah:

يُثَبِّتُ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِالْقَوْلِ الثَّابِتِ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ ۖ وَيُضِلُّ اللَّهُ الظَّالِمِينَ ۚ وَيَفْعَلُ اللَّهُ مَا يَشَاءُ

Allah will keep firm those who believe, with the word that stands firm in this world (i.e. they will keep on worshipping Allah alone and none else), and in the Hereafter. And Allah will cause to go astray those who are Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.), and Allah does what He wills.

– Surah Ibrahim, Ayah 27

May Allah grant us all goodness, may He forgive our shortcomings and count us among the righteous ones.
