حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا وَعِنْدَهَا امْرَأَةٌ قَالَ ‏”‏ مَنْ هَذِهِ ‏”‏‏.‏ قَالَتْ فُلاَنَةُ‏.‏ تَذْكُرُ مِنْ صَلاَتِهَا‏.‏ قَالَ ‏”‏ مَهْ، عَلَيْكُمْ بِمَا تُطِيقُونَ، فَوَاللَّهِ لاَ يَمَلُّ اللَّهُ حَتَّى تَمَلُّوا ‏”‏‏.‏ وَكَانَ أَحَبَّ الدِّينِ إِلَيْهِ مَا دَامَ عَلَيْهِ صَاحِبُهُ‏.‏

Narrated ‘Aisha: Once the Prophet (ﷺ) came while a woman was sitting with me. He said, “Who is she?” I replied, “She is so and so,” and told him about her (excessive) praying. He said disapprovingly,”Do (good) deeds which is within your capacity (without being overtaxed) as Allah does not get tired (of giving rewards) but (surely) you will get tired and the best deed (act of Worship) in the sight of Allah is that which is done regularly.”

I quickly dashed out to the car park in an attempt to beat time given the long-distance travel ahead of me. Luckily for me, the slight delay gave me the opportunity to remember one shenanigan I thought I have addressed but no.

While waiting for a bus, I engaged the driver in a conversation. we talked about the transport business, politics, tribalization and the way forward for Nigeria. During the discussion, the man brought out a bottle of Chelsea, London dry gin, sprinkled some on the floor and started to pray, wishing himself well, the opposite for his enemies and beseeched God to ward off evil from his way.

While praying, another driver joined us. He also had some drops of the gin on the floor and started his own prayers too. After him was another driver who did the same by having some drops on the floor but sips in between his prayers.

This act of ogogoro prayer is common with the Yorubas as well as the Igbos. What connection does a gin have to do with the acceptance of prayers? For the one praying, he is paying obeisance to the devil, if not, to mother earth to favour him. He goes asking the earth to favour him, not drink his blood, etc., while he also keeps mentioning God.

Ceremonies like weddings, freedom or graduation ceremonies for artisans may not be complete without the gin or schnapps. As a matter of fact, we have deceived ourselves into believing it is the elder’s drink while some elders have deceived themselves into believing that it is a worthy gift for blessings.

People who buy this ogogoro prayer include Muslims and Christians. The drink is cultural and traditional even if it was imported from Germany. Who would imagine that Esu in Nigeria or the Nigerian earth would so much love a drink especially when it is imported?

It is important to note that there is nothing spiritual about gins, schnapps, rum or whatever. Nothing is spiritual about them and they should not be used for spiritual purposes. Doing so is falsehood, delusion and a lie.

We want to accept a culture and tradition because we met them that way even when the lies therein are obvious? Unfortunately, I was not chanced to admonish those drivers. You want to pray, pray to God. Where is the evidence that you need to pour a portion of liquor on the floor to pray or wish yourself well?

Well, if there is nothing wrong with this, then, the one who does the ogogoro prayer should pour his drink up to the sky…only if he would defy the law of gravity…

The need to pay attention (Da’wah) to the South-South and the South-East States cannot be overemphasized.

On my way to Onitsha yesterday, this Catholic brother started a discussion. He asked me what I am going to Onitsha for (was going to Asaba but on Onitsha bus), I told him for a religious dialogue then we started talking about religions.

Most of them on the bus thought I was Hausa that I had to explain that not all Muslims are Hausa and vice versa. The brother (he is from Enugu) said till he went to the South-West, he has never seen a mosque and was surprised that there are Yoruba Muslims.

We also discussed terrorism. “Muslims are not terrorists, Islam does not say kill people. See I am a Muslim, have I killed anyone?” and verses from the Qur’an that Islam has nothing to do with terrorism.

Surprised that a Muslim speaks good English and that a Muslim quotes the Bible, one went, ” You be Muslim true true?”

The Catholic brother who claimed to have studied theology and philosophy got an assignment during our discourse on Trinity.

He quoted Jesus, “I and my Father are one”. I asked if this is unity of persons or purpose, he chose the former. I then quoted,

“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one” John 17:22

Here, Jesus Christ was defining the oneness he had with the father. Now, is the oneness that of persons or purpose? If of persons, are the disciples part of the trinity?

He was silent and I said, “Ask questions when you get to the Church but please, your brain first”

قَالَ مَالِكٌ أَخْبَرَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ، أَنَّ عَطَاءَ بْنَ يَسَارٍ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ، سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ‏”‏ إِذَا أَسْلَمَ الْعَبْدُ فَحَسُنَ إِسْلاَمُهُ يُكَفِّرُ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ كُلَّ سَيِّئَةٍ كَانَ زَلَفَهَا، وَكَانَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ الْقِصَاصُ، الْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا إِلَى سَبْعِمِائَةِ ضِعْفٍ، وَالسَّيِّئَةُ بِمِثْلِهَا إِلاَّ أَنْ يَتَجَاوَزَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ‏”

Narrated Abu Sa’id Al Khudri: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “If a person embraces Islam sincerely, then Allah shall forgive all his past sins, and after that starts the settlement of accounts, the reward of his good deeds will be ten times to seven hundred times for each good deed and one evil deed will be recorded as it is unless Allah forgives it.”

THE BODY, NOT THE BRAIN

Mutmainnah Sanni Ololade did not only clear all prizes at the recently-concluded convocation ceremony of the Obafemi Awolowo University, she was declared Best Graduating Student for the academic year. Since I saw the video of that unprecedented glory, my mind had developed a worrying concern – that a lady whose brain was sealed up all through her studentship could make such a phantasmagorical mark. How possible? How rational? How tenable?

I saw in that video, and I watched carefully too how the jilbabic lady marched forward to receive her accolades. Isn’t it ridiculously touted and jestingly trumpeted that hijab is a garment that barricades the brain from functioning properly? So I began to wonder how a brainless person could achieve the feat that could only be actualised by brainy fellows. Could the Senate of the school be under voodoo during collation of results? Or perhaps its members had been bought over by the parents of the lady. Shouldn’t the school be investigated for academic fraud – forgery and perjury? How much was the school offered by the IQ-barren lady? Is the international integrity of OAU not at stake with such a blunder?

A similar case recently happened at the University of Ibadan where one jilbabic Awoyemi Habeebah made a perfect 7.0 CGPA for her Master’s degree. That followed a First Class grade she made to bag her First degree in Anatomy. The school got so hypnotized that the lady who is now on her doctoral degree was offered employment as assistant lecturer. What exactly is becoming of our varsities? Shouldn’t the government see to this anathema before it blows out of control?

The laughable of all is the case of not just a jilbabite this time around but a niqabite bagging a doctorate in Educational Evaluation. How possible? Kafilat Motunrayo Oyaniran, the proprietress of Milestone, Ibadan, Oyo State had a First Class grade in Theatre Arts and was the Best Graduating Student in the year. Wasn’t this another blunder from the University of Ibadan? Although, the lady is an author of books, but she is brainless? Why? Because she uses hijab!

Even commonsense is enough a source of response to the above puzzles. The ladies couldn’t have come out in such amazing flying colours if they weren’t geniuses. And the jilbab on them was no blockade to their brains. It was mere adornment. A command by Allah to the believing girls, ladies and women.

The great feats achieved by our prided sisters – Mutmainnah, Habeebah, Kafilat and a host of others unmentioned – are enough a reason to have a change of thought about hijab. It is just a garment to dignify, not to denegrate them.

If you are a Muslim and you still consider jilbab an unworthy garment (despite the aforementioned narrations), know that there is a knot to be untied in your head and a needle to be surgicalized from your eyes.

DAILY AHADITH: NO EXTREMISM

‏‏.‏
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Religion is very easy and whoever overburdens himself in his religion will not be able to continue in that way.So you should not be extremists, but try to be near to perfection and receive the good tidings that you will be rewarded; and gain strength by worshipping in the mornings, the afternoons, and during the last hours of the nights.” (See Fath-ul-Bari, Page 102, Vol 1).

STUPIDITY OF SPINSTERS BY SANNI KAY YUSUF

He proposed marriage to her. The radiant lady accepted the cute suitor for a life partner. The duo kept their imam in the know of their bond and were duly fed with diets needed to stay pious especially with regards to refraining from zina and hastening up solemnization.

In a short while, the man informed the imam that the relationship had been laid to grave for reasons best known to him.

Later on, the lady requested to have a talk with the imam. She was granted audience and various issues were raised, but the one that is of concern in the foregoing has to do with the man’s alleged sexual advances at her. The lady informed of how her ex could have had carnal knowledge of her if not for her dogged, tenacious refusal. She told the imam never to fall for the holier-than-thou pretense displayed by the man. She furthered her narration stating unequivocally that the man was a serial Casanova. Hmm!

If the tale were true as chronologicalized, the lady like the man – had no good case. How would a man have the guts to attempt to bed a would-be wife if she had not stupidly, cheaply acted the shaytan’s script too? Premarital relationship isn’t inclusive of seclusion with each other. That’s haram! And it is nothing but a clear path to fornication and/or adultery. If the man was truly a Casanova, the lady shouldn’t have allowed him bear the name on her. No road should have been paved for such anomaly to happen.

Many of us are guilty of seclusion with our would-be spouses. Some ladies are so foolish that nights are even passed with their would-be husbands. What pattern would their sleep take? Face opposing directions on the same bed? Or one uses the bed, and the other the floor? That’s arrant nonsense! I think it makes no sense for a lady who does all these with her would-be man to complain of sexual advances. They are both birds of the same feather! No man whose system works effectively would not get aroused in such a situation. That’s why avoidance is key, and it is the only way to go.

THE HUMAN RIGHTS GROUP AND C.A.N. GOT IT WRONG

My attention was drawn to the sepatate calls made by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for the resignation or removal of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). The two bodies bitterly criticized the CJN for calling for the improvement of the status of the Shari’ah in Nigeria through the amendment of the relevant sections of the Constitution. They described the CJN as heating the polity by thus calling for what they described, laughably though, as the Islamization of the country.

The comments of the two bodies reminded me of those of an Ibadan high court judge back in 1990. In the course an expert evidence that I gave before him under cross examination on Shari’ah provisions on succession and inheritance by the renowned legal luminary, Mrs. Folake Solanke SAN, the trial judge, a Christian, expressed surprise at, and profound appreciation of the depth and breadth of the Shari’ah. Openly before the whole court, he lamented his lack of knowledge of a law in force in his own country even as a judge. Consequently, he advocated that every student in Nigeria should be made to study the Shari’ah.

How does that compare with the vertuperous attacks of the HURIWA and the CAN on the CJN? What a huge contrast! Who knows better the constitution and the law, a judge or a biased human rights writer and a layman scribe of CAN combined?

Section 38 of the 1999 Constitution as ammended guarantees freedom of religion both in belief and in practice. The whole life of a Muslim is governed by the laws of his religion. Therefore, it is the duty of the nation to provide for a judicial system whereby the relevant laws are interpreted correctly and disputes among adherents arising from such laws are resolved peacefully. Hence, there are provisions in the Constitution for the establishment of Shari’ah courts any where this is required in the country to cater for the needs of Muslim citizens. If HURIWA and CAN are not asking that these provisions be expunged from the constitution, why do they want to crucify the CJN for calling for the improvement of the Shari’ah as other laws in force in the country are open to improvement?

In what way is the improvement of the application of the Shari’ah for Muslims in Nigeria offensive to non-Muslims? And in what way does it constitute a violation of the the provision of Section 10 of the Constitution which prohibits the adoption of a state religion by the State?

Incidentally, the critics contradicted themselves by suggesting that Nigeria is both a ‘Secular’ and ‘Multi-religious’. Are’nt the two terms mutually exclusive? No where in any constitution of Nigeria is the country described as ‘Secular’.

Those who are pathological hostile to anything Muslim to the extent of denying fellow citizens who happen to be Muslims, rights even as simple as the use of hijab by female Muslim pupils and students are better advised to purge themselves of such hostility for the good of all.

Let them bear in mind that Muslims are aware of the fact the Saturday- Sunday weekend imposed on all of us by our Christian colonizers satisfies the religious needs of only Nigerian Christian’s. Yet, Muslims are not complaining. So, let non-Muslim citizens of Nigerian cultivate the spirit of “Live and let live”.

Meanwhile, we should salute the courage of the CJN, commend him for making the call and urge the National Assembly to take quick action on his suggestion and do the needful.

2020 is Approaching, Fake Prophecies Approaching By Sanusi Olawale ibn Abdulwasiu

With less than three weeks for 2019 to run down the mud, we need to remind ourselves of fake prophets with their fake prophecies as usual.

It is either Nigerians don’t learn from the past or some are just being stupid. December 31st every year always have prophecies that are not just false, but evil. Yet people still troll behind such seers. Do we blame them for their stupidity or the humans in the devil’s form who deceive them in the name of God? Come to think of it, none of these seers force these prophecies down the throat of their followers.

Obviously, Islam and Christianity are on different pages as to who a prophet is. For Muslims, the last prophet is Muhammad but for Christians, prophets seem to be endless. Let us first compare who a prophet should be from both faiths.
Prophets in Islam are individuals who Muslims believe were sent by God to various communities in order to serve as examples of ideal human behaviour and to spread God’s message on earth. Some prophets are categorized as messengers, those who transmit divine revelations through the intercession of an angel (Gabriel to be specific). Muslims believe the first prophet was Adam and the last is Muhammad. To believe in all the prophets is a part of the articles of faith, less the faith is incomplete. In Islam, every prophet is believed to preach the same core message – Al-Islam.

Comparing the meaning of prophet in Christianity with that of Islam seems to bring problems. For Christians, a prophet is different. Yes, different from what Islam limit it to. Like Islam, Christians believe prophets are chosen and called by God. But what Christians mean by chosen and called by God seems to be different from the perception of Muslims. A pastor who attended a bible school and later became a preacher can be said to be called by God. We often hear these preachers brag, ‘’if truly I am called by God, so so and so would happen’’. In short, they give prophecies!

More than 133 named prophets were mentioned in the bible. The first named prophet is Abraham in Genesis 20:7, God spoke to Abimelech in dream saying, ‘’ now then, return (Abraham’s) wife, for he is a prophet, so that he will pray for you, and you will live’’. But how and why God would wait for such a long time between Adam and Abraham to send a prophet is a topic for another day.

To Christians, a prophet should be able to receive messages from God concerning events that will take place in the future, and convey them to a certain group of persons or sometimes an individual. Meaning a prophet should be a seer. He should be able to foresee and tell future events. He should be able to predict what would happen and when. They simply believe God doesn’t speak directly to individuals.

This is the point everything got messy. Once you are on the alter, you can receive message from God. People now troop into churches to simply receive predictions. December 31st every year is one particular day gullible followers swallow gibberish as prophecies.

By this standard that every person who must see ‘’tomorrow’’ is a prophet has made a lot of people prophets and prophetesses. An Ifa (Oracle) priest who can check what tomorrow holds falls in the same category. A sports analyst who sits and tells who may likely win a game falls in the same category. That makes prophethood a web of uncertainty! Don’t let us also forget witches and wizards, their predictions are even more accurate than most “men of God”, Are they prophets too?

The sad thing is, these people seldom fail in their predictions. One now wonders if it’s their God who failed them or they simply lied to their congregations. December 2018 for example had a lot of prophecies that had gone into garbage; dead without being fulfilled. Do we still regard these liars as prophets? God doesn’t give fake messages.
Let me refresh your memories with these:

1. Prophet Moses Muyideen Kasali, the General Overseer of The Mountain of Mercy (aka Ori-Oke Alaseyori Church) of Moniya area of Ibadan, Oyo state prophesied, ” If President Buhari opts to seek re-election, he would be defeated.”
This didn’t just fail, it did woefully. Muhammad Buhari didn’t just win the election, he also won the court cases up to the supreme level.

2. The general overseer of Voice of Liberty Intercessors Ministry in Delta state, Apostle Joshua Mone says: “I see the nation Atikulated in 2019.”
Probably his God told him about another nation which isn’t Nigeria. A failed prophecy.

3. Rev. Simeon Ononogbu an Ebonyi-based Pastor predicted in an interview that the Falcons would reach the semi-finals of the last Women’s World Cup in France, while the hosts, France would place fifth.
He later blamed a “deceitful” spirit when the prediction failed. What a “marvelous God” revealed a lie unto him.

The list seems endless if I’m to keep updating your memories. I’m not saying these people are fake prophets, I’m only saying their prophecies have failed. Judge them yourself.

These people are businessmen. And one of the strategies that wins customers to their sanctuary is predictions. Especially the bad ones. The rule of the business states that, the more predictions you make, either true or not, the more people are convinced you are called.

Now that the year is winding down, they are obviously preparing for another series of tales to predict. But You all need to know the fact. It is not everyone who “speaks forth” a message is actually a prophet of God. The bible actually warns against false prophets who claim to speak for God but who actually deceive the people they purport to inform.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

In the New Testament, we have many warnings against false prophets. Jesus taught, “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves” ( Matthew 7:15 ). He later noted that, in the end times, “false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect” ( Matthew 24:24 ).

Revelation speaks of a false prophet who will arise in the Tribulation and deceive people around the world ( Revelation 16:13; 19:20; 20:10 ).

Anyways I have an advice for you prophecy seekers,

1 John 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The signs of a hypocrite are three:

1. Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie.
2. Whenever he promises, he always breaks it (his promise ).
3. If you trust him, he proves to be dishonest. (If you keep something as a trust with him, he will not return it.)”
