So, today, I met a Christian apologist who said Jesus was crucified. Then he quoted this verse to justify his claim,

“Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” Matthew 26:39

He was so incoherent in trying to interpret the verse to mean Jesus asked for death. Amazing that others on the bus looked on as the “Man of God” was confused with his own interpretation.

Now, if the cup is that of death, did Jesus not know that his mission was to die to have asked for the cup to pass over him? Were Jesus aware, we should have something like this,

“Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, please, this cup must not pass over me .”

In the verse, “If possible, let this be taken from me” is a sign of weakness and not being prepared for the mission.

There is no way out for Christian apologists when it comes to this verse. This is the only place where Jesus cried to God in pains, tears and anguish and we read,

“During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. (Hebrews 5:7)

He cried to God who could save him from DEATH and he was HEARD. Due to hypocrisy, Christians will say the HEARD does not mean answered but we read…

2 Chronicles 7:14

“and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will HEAR from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

1 John 5:14

This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He HEARS us.

Hear in these context means answered prayers! If the meaning of HEARD in Hebrew 5:7 does not mean answered, what emphasis do we then lay on the HEARD, that the prayer got into God’s ear?

Dear Christian, your pastor will definitely tell you this writer hates Christianity, just think so they don’t exchange your head for offering box.

May we not go astray. Ameen
