Who are those impious, deranged muslims that, as rumoured, do present packs of tin milk to their mothers, supposedly and in their figment, as a commensurate reward for the many-month breast-milk they were nurtured with? Unveil their identities! Let’s find them wherever they are, even if it requires journeying for decades barefooted! Let’s pay them a visit in company of very pragmatic psychoneuropathologists for a comprehensive brain check and consequently treatment of the sociopathic cum shaytanic ailment! Let’s go tell them they aren’t ahlus-sunnah, but ahlu sorrow!

The scenario summarily painted above has been in the air almost forever. I heard it for the first time in year 2000 – approximately two decades ago – when my heart fatly and largely opened up to enjoy the sweetness of sunnah. Until times later, I never knew such was only to get me dissuaded from embracing veracity. The narrators were quick to cite the case but were not so quick to name names and places where it was prevalent. All they did, and still do, is to give a blanket narration.

For the sake of argument, let’s assumedly concede that the act did preponderantly happen and keeps happening to date, what nexus has it with the sunnah of the holy Prophet? Even if the culprits claim to be ahlus-sunnah, is the act in tandem with the sunnah? Have they any evidence to adduce their alien practice? Who among the salaf predated such an unwholesome, untoward act? Ask the practitioners of the mess to mention just one. Impossible! They can’t, because it never happened!

What does anyone stand to benefit from saddening his parents, especially the mother – whereas Allah wants them gladdened at all times till they bid farewell to life? Parents should not just be respected; they should be revered and venerated, even if they are ardent idolaters who see no reason in worshipping Allah. Your mother is you mother, even if she had murdered her heart from submitting to her Lord. Your father is your father, even if he is fetish without remorse. One of the ways to gain their hearts is by moving closer to them, not by deserting them. They need you to be lucky like you are.

If the act under analysis is true, then the doers are no less or more than extremist ahlu-sorrows, not ahlus-sunnah. They are flouters of the laws of Allah and the practices of the role model of muslims – prophet Muhammad.

Goodness to people – muslims and non-muslims alike – is not negotiable, let alone obedience to parents – the ones through whom life and existence on earth was ensured. Legislation on goodness, obedience and adherence to parental dictates is lucidly enshrined in the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Who dares trivialise parental matters or belittle the priceless worth of parents than he who is ignorantly and involuntarily calling for his own ruins. Allah says:

“Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be kind to your parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them. But address them in terms of honour. And out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say (pray for them): ‘My Lord! Bestow on them your mercy as they cherished me in childhood.” Q17 V23-24.

No wonder the Prophet said: “Allah’s pleasure is in parents’ happiness, and Allah’s displeasure is in parents’ unhappiness.” Apparently, giving cow-milk as reward for breast-milk will trigger no less than anger. And when the parent is angry, Allah is, too.

The consequences of parents’ unhappiness with their child(ren) are unbearable. It may halt the flow of success. It may prevent a child from attaining success. Ultimately, it may cost the child his Jannah.

But if the allegation is far from truth, the one(s) who cooked the lie and those who peddle the rumour should repent before it is too late; for the Prophet said: “He will not enter Paradise, rumourmongers.” Allah admonishes such ill-hearted fellows thus:

“O you who believe! If a sinner comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, lest you harm people unwittingly and afterwards become full of repentance for what you have done.” Q49 V6.

Repent! Repent!! Repent, o you peddlers and mongers of rumour!!!

  • O Allah! Guide the strayed and do not stray the guided.
